I always see Beckers around, but actual Beckerheads would be nice. I already have my ticket. For three days of what they are teaching, that price is a steal!

BTW...asked Dave if talking to Ethan sparked a plan for a BK-PFK (Becker Pathfinder Knife) and sadly, he said no.

I'm taking all my Beckers with me!

VERY cool. Looks like cool thing to do. I never even heard of that school before. Let us know how it was.

I cant abide a liar, especially a stolen valor liar, and it has been proven that Canterbury is just that.

Thanks for the invite though, have fun.

Seriously though, are you allowed to link to any site that you can "click to purchase" something?

I've also heard grumblings about the controversy with D.C. Does anyone have a link to a page somewhere that outlines the details of this? Not interested in a flamewar or trolling, so please just keep things civil and factual.

Thanks for the post c tanner. I'd definitely be in if it was on this side. Bargain for sure.

I don't know anything about the irrelevant (in my opinion) argument about whatever was or was not in his military record, and frankly, could not care less about that. I never see him selling what he does based on what he did or didn't do in the military. I know Discovery Channel wanted to "pump up" his military creds because that's good for pushing the show.

Here's what I do know....

Dave Canterbury is probably one of the nicest guys I've ever met, much less nicest famous guy. He's very much like how you describe Ethan, who I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet. His knowledge of woodlands based survival, and "old style" survival living is pretty much unmatched at this point. He will not talk crap about anyone...even one on one. He's a very strong family man and extremely active in passing down these skills to the youth. He allows adults to bring their youth at no extra charge, and gives them extra attention. All the kids in my class went home with some really, really nice stuff, like BHK Bushcrafters. I hear all this stuff about him, but knowing him...I just don't see it. I've never ever once heard him say "When I was in the Army.....______"

If he did said something that wasn't entirely accurate in the past, I don't understand why people act like they caught him eating babies. His behaviour since I have known him has been beyond reproach.

I hate quoting from the bible, but as the saying goes..."Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

I do remember when this first came up, though it didn't look like much to me. It happened when the show was taking off big and there were a lot of other people in the survival community that just wanted to take him down a notch. Back in my ghost investigator days (10 years...6 of which were before it made it on reality TV) I saw the exact same pattern. Someone gets a reality TV show, and the jealous haters come out in force...picking apart everything you ever said, did, or put on video to discredit and ad hominem attack you.

I don't have time for that juvenile BS. All I know is he is a nice guy, the people that follow him are nice people, his knowledge and training is among the best, and although he has deals with BHK and Habilis, he has always respected the Becker brand and thinks highly of Ethan.

I've done a lot worse things in my life than what he has been accused of. If anyone ever wants to judge me for who I was as opposed to who I am, then I really don't give a shit. Lets everyone open our closets and turn the light on. Especially if you don't even know the person you are passing judgement on.

All I wanted to know is if anyone else knew about it and was going. Its the kind of stuff Beckerheads would like.

I will be honest, I am not ready for an advanced class..lol.
If I was going to do something like this, I would start with the very first class he offers.
I hear a lot of good stuff about him so no bashing from me.
I am hoping to gain more knowledge and skills at the fall gather, and maybe next year I will go to a few of these classes to get my skills up to speed.
PWYP sounds like a lot of fun, and Uncle E is known to show up too heh.

Deal spotting constitutes, for the most part, purchasing of an item that would be of the sort, that would be able to sponsor BFC. Granted, Dave could come on here and purchase a dealer membership, and I hope he does.

I'm making a judgement call on this one, though there is a "buy" button, you are buying a class. Unless Bladite, Guyon, or a Super comes on and tells me its deal spotting, I am gonna let it ride.

Whatever your thoughts are on Dave Canterbury, the guy knows his stuff in the woods.

Now, feel free to discuss the class, but lets not start discussing Dave's history. If we want to do that, head over to Whine and Cheese, and we can mix it up there.

Thanks.

As a matter of fact, why don't we be good Beckerheads, and help him narrow down what knife he should take, and what features it would offer him in an advanced wilderness class.

I have recently fell back in love with my BK7's, so, that's what I would offer up. Solid blade length, light enough to make it easy to carry, and with the right sheath, a basic kit is easily taken along.

Well, technically it's a seminar, not a "test type" class. It's just a chance to go out and see some people teach skills that aren't usually part of the Pathfinder curriculum. And it's cheap. I paid $300 for my Basic class, and it's gone up. I think Advanced is about $450. This only cost me $150. Basic is pretty much a relaxed class, whereas the Advanced and Scout classes you have to embrace the suck. This is more like a mini-gathering.

You can also do the correspondence type course where you have to go out and do the tasks and send in the videos. I chose not to go that route because I don't adhere solely to his system, I just take the stuff I want. I'm more 50/50 Survival Practitioner/Prepper. The only time you'd catch me anywhere without at least the 5 C's is if I was escaping a prison camp or something and had everything taken. I'm not huge on primitive stuff. I know how to do most of it, but I like creating kits of my own design and having what I need.

I'm taking my Godspeed BK7/BK14 rig fo' sho! But my BK9 and BK2 with Nix Leather will be present as well in case I want to mix it up. I always see a lot of Beckers there. Not everyone attends the churches of BHK and Habilis just because. I'd say the last time it was 50/50 Becker/BHK in attendance.

I'm going to try real hard to get that pic of Dave with a Becker you wanted last time Moose. I wish he and Ethan could work something out. When I brought up the idea in the Pathfinder R&D group, a LOT of people said they would LOVE a Becker-Pathfinder knife!

To make it less "grey", I removed the link and replaced it with the text describing the event.
