Is anyone a police officer or have ever been in direct experience with an officer with a knife in Ohio?
nope not a police officer, and only driven through ohio a few times. never had a problem but i always play safe and act conservatively....when it comes to weapon laws. i'm not gonna give the govt the chance to strip my rights away on a nonsense felony conviction cause i carried the wrong size knife across an invisible line.
I have a couple blades that I carry on a regular basis but I'm afraid that if I get stopped for some reason I will be in more trouble then I asked for... What are the knife rules for Ohio
here is a link to this sites own Mr. Bernard Levine's site on knife laws.....for ohio the state...last updated in 2005, so things could have changed? something to keep in mind...

i also searched via google and there is allot of nice info out there even covering case law. i did not post those cause cross linking forums i assume is in bad behavior. lots of detailed info out there "cut and pasted" from the ohio law books.
or does it depend on county or even city?
exactly. state laws are one thing, city ordinances are another and county as well. typically city ordinances and counties with larger cities and metro areas have stiffer ordinances than the state laws, but not always. easiest way to find out for sure is to call your local politician(s) (meaning county, cities, state) and ask them to send you the laws that cover all the areas you plan on traveling through in your daily routines and such. after all the govt works for you, time you got soemthing back for all that tax money you paid in.
did my best, sorry don't have the time right now to look it all up for you, but you can help yourself. via googling your current state knife laws, and reading through the forums all over where this has been posted before and contacting your elected representatives and county and city commissioners, etc, etc. and asking them to send you the information, so you can obey the laws.
lastly always air on the side of caution. and follow Mr. Ritters(knife rights) rules on getting pulled over or pulled aside by a police officer while you are carrying a knife.....
1.) remain silent (5th amendment right) means say nothing don't try to reason with the officer
2.)ask for your attorney.(6th amendment right) even if you don't have one, they have to provide one for you. once you invoke this right they can't use their usual strategies and tactics on you. that will end up making you incriminate yourself even if your doing nothing wrong.
3.)do not consent to waiving any rights, including a search of your person or your vehicle without them having a warrant or your attorney's approval.
4.) join knife rights, cause if you don't then you won't be able to do this 4th thing.....contact knife rights after speaking with your attorney
then it goes on to say what should be common sense to everyone, but just in case...don't resist arrest no matter what, don't be rude or disrespectful, smart *rse, etc. be polite and curtious, but let the officer realize you know your rights without being arrogant.
