Ohio USPS problems

Anyone else have trouble with packages getting damaged when going to Ohio? Of the 6 damaged forges I've had in the last 3 years, 5 were in Ohio, including 2 last week, and a box of bricks utterly destroyed.

Is it unreasonable to not offer USPS shipping to people in Ohio?

I've had a couple of packages beat up pretty bad lately. I live in the northern part of Kentucky so I'm pretty sure they're being routed through Cincinnati, Ohio. Not just that, I have received my neighbor's packages several times and my neighbors have received mine. Just yesterday I walked a 6" by 6" box up the street to the right address and it looked like it had been run over.

I bought some ironwood blocks from another member on here and my wife said she saw the mailman cramming it into my mailbox. If you saw the size of the box and my mailbox you would be amazed at this mailman's strength lol.

I've got the pictures I took of it too and the packaging was tore up. Surprised it even made it to me.

I would say no its not unreasonable. We recently redefined our shipping terms just because we've had so many problems with the USPS, loss, theft and damage. So with certain exceptions if a package has a value over $100 it goes Fed Ex or UPS. Under $100 it can go by USPS. We do sell nuemerous smaller items where we thought $15 for shipping was unreasonable. We basically found a level we were comfortable taking a hit at.

I think it's USPS in general. I've received several packages over the last year that appear to have been under water at some point.

Well I received my atlas forge today. The box was in perfect condition. Maybe they're watching this forum!

We ship several hundred packages a year. We see less than 1% loss with USPS, often due to theft or loss on the receiving end.

We put the work in a good plastic bag to keep it dry, we use a lot of foam and packing bubbles, we use a heavy duty high quality box and tape the hell out of it, we use a laser printer to make the labels so they're water proof and we totally tape over the address information. That's a lot of bet hedging, but the end result is they almost can't screw up our stuff.

I know you can't do all that with something like a forge, but extra packaging is cheap insurance. You should see the packaging I use to ship knife blanks.
