I'm just checking to see if anyone if heading to the show in Ohio this weekend. By the way, where is Ohio?

Ohio ?
why thats where you'll find some of the finist knifemakers in the country; course i'm partial.;)

Just got back from the Cambridge, Ohio show- and had a heck of a great time.

This was my first real show, so maybe I'm just easily impressed, but I was totally blown away by all the incredible work there. You know, browsing around the internet is one thing- but seeing the maker's work in person is something completely different. As "Kevin" mentioned in the community forum- total sensory overload.

I wanted to post in here a big thanks to Darrel Ralph. Yeah, we all know him and love him (awwwww...), but it's worth mentioning again how much of a friendly and approachable guy he is. I could not be more happy with the small Apogee I picked up from him today. I'm a self-confessed "groupie" of Darrel's work, and it's a real treat to see how his designs have evolved. I got my first Apogee, geez, like a year and half or two years ago, and although that was a great knife, this one is refined even further. Kudos Darrel on a job well done. Anyone else that went to the show get to see the new folder collaboration with Wilson Tactical? Wow.

In addition to Darrel's stuff, Theuns Prinsloo had some mind-bendingly cool pieces as did A.T. Barr and Jimmy Lile. I had a great conversation with John Fraps of Cougar Creek Knives, whose gent's model folders were whispering sweet nothings to my wallet. Great prices as well! Before this show, I had not even heard of Cougar Creek... my loss.

So many cool knives, and so many cool people. I could get used to these shows...now when's the next one?

Hey cpirtle-

Did you pick that up from a dealer set up near the Koval display? It was sitting in a case right at the end of the aisle... tall guy in a white stetson?

Good price! I was really tempted, glad to see someone around here snatched it up.

Actually, I got this beauty from the man himself.

It's Darrel Ralph's Mini Madd Maxx. Sorry I should have mentioned it in my last post.

I've been drooling over these since I first saw them and when he told me it was one of two he ever did with file work it was the nail in my coffin..:D

Wow- how about that?

I knew what knife it was...that's pretty weird, though!

We got there on Friday before the doors opened, and went to Darrel's table right away to pick up the Apogee I ordered, and he just a had a large plain Maxx there. I must've missed the one you picked up.

The reason I say it's "weird" or coincedental, at least- this one dealer had a virtually indentical file worked Mini-Maxx in his case that he was selling for a friend of his who- as the dealer put it- "occasionally helps out Darrel in the shop". It was a spear point as well, and the price tag was $250!! Like I said, I was realllly tempted, but I knew that dragging my wife to the show was already going to cost me when we drove back up past the Amish furniture stores....

Regardless, it's good to hear from another "local" knife guy- I'm over in Elyria, so if you ever want to go to a show or something- drop me a line.

Firebat,

Thank-you sincerely for your kind words. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and talking with a bunch of really fine folks, on both sides of the exhibition tables, at the Greater Ohio Valley (Koval) Knife Show. I do not intend to miss this one in the future.
And as you mentioned about Amish Country, A.T. Barr's "Better Half" and mine had a great time in Dresden one day and in Amish Country around Dover the next.

Judy and Mick Koval, and family, and crew, obviously made a great effort to put on a show that was good for customers and makers alike. My appreciation to them as well!
If this show was this good in the first year, think how good it will be next year, and forward, as the reputation grows!

It was a nice show! I talked to a few makers that sold out on the first day....DOH! (forehead slap)...you shudda brought more blades:(

I enjoyed meeting some of the forumites here and chatting while oggling over thier craftmanship.

I plan on attending next year also.

Sincere thanks to Mick and Judy Koval!

rfrink and John R. Fraps-- This is what I wanted to hear, the show will go on next year for sure, right? Did many people do good business?

OK, I'll bite-- Ohio is where that airplane came from you folks put on your quarter. Is that all NC has to brag about? Some airplane from out of state? Why couldn't the NC Knifenuts be on your quarter? Seems like they make up about half the population of the state (or maybe they just own half the knives in NC:)). And half of them are famous people who write articles for the magazines. Last I heard, Ohio is gonna start minting our own quarters with DDR on both sides, and it's not gonna be one of those pictures with you NC guys in the shop, either. :)
Wait a minute, a Madd Maxx won't fit on a quarter, we'll have to to a dollar bill.
