While shopping around the other day, I noticed in a local store a Victorinox One Hand Trekker with a black coated blade. The store owner said it came that way. Another store had a OHT, but with the regular to me silver stainless blade with no coating. Can anyone enlighten me?

You meen like this one ? I thought the black blades were just limited runs . This one is my special edition "Secret Order of the Swiss Army Knife " (SOSAK )

What are the pros/cons of the black blade?

I agree with shecky, if I understood what he meant. A coated blade is cool for collectors, maybe even useful (if you're a soldier/ninja who wants to avoid light reflection, come out of darkness and stab somebody in the back :D), but if you plan to use the knife as an all-around tool for camping/hiking (which means working with food, mostly), I suggest a regular blade.

Vic ran the black blades for a year or so but it didn't last. SOSAK got them for the annual knife as shown. I agree they seem more of a novelty than of real use.
