Oil and Salt

I am really having trouble finding the best salts, and to a lesser degree, the right oils.
I'm using 52100 because I think it's a little better than any other forgeable steel.

Yeah, sure, I could have started with something easier, but once I get set up, it's just a matter of doing the work. That's not frightening. I look forward to learning this steel, but I need some help from you gracious gentlemen.

I would like to give Mr. Cashen a big Thank You for the input he has given me, but I don't want to lean on him so hard. I know there are many of you that know a lot about sources and whatnot.

Anything would be much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch.

By salts, I guess you mean HT salts. They can be purchased from High Temperature Tools and Refractory ( formerly Ellis Refractory)

The oils can be purchased from several sources. HTT&R has them, but they are backordered right now.
Some possible sources are Brownell's; most knife supply companies; The Exchange (BF sale forum);McMaster-Carr;Houghtons.

Thank you gentlemen. I had already tried hightemptools, to no avail at all. I actually tried every company on the list in the sticky.

Maxim does have Park 50, and I have to make a run down to Fort Worth sometime soon anyway, so I'll pick that up when I'm down there.

I tried Brownells, and they want about $55/gallon, which is only about 4x the price of Park AAA, as I've read that that's what it is.

I'm not sure who makes the best HT salt, but I sure would like to get my hands on some high temp and some low temp. Does anyone know a really good brand? Maybe I could find it that way.
