What oil do you use to lubricate slip joints, swiss army knives, multitools, etc? 3-in-1 oil works but it stinks.

I use mineral oil. I always have a bottle handy for cutting boards and i use it on my wood handle knives and kitchen tools. So it gets used on the joints too.

Probably not ideal, but at least I know its food safe.

Thanks. I feel stupid. What is mineral oil. I know what mineral spirits is, but not mineral oil. Is it anything like the oil for electric hair clippers?

Food grade mineral oil is sold as butcher block oil, and as a laxative at the pharmacy.

I believe there is also industrial grade that is not food safe.

Mineral oil is used on wood cutting boards salad bowls and wooden spoons because it won’t turn rancid like olive oil does

It comes in a big bottle that will last a lifetime. Even the small bottle lasts a long time.

I've been using something called Knife Pivot Lube. No idea if the lube itself is special, but the dispenser with the needle tip is great for applying oil just where I want it.

That's usually exactly what the clipper oil is. It's a lighter, thinner form of mineral oil called 'white' mineral oil, which is very good for sharpening & maintenance of the joints.

Sewing machine oil as a light oil and bike chain lube as a heavy oil. It's just what I have. Sometimes even coconut oil. I still have my CRK stuff unopened.

Ballistol, beats everything I've tried so far.

I was really surpriced how much better it did than f.ex KPL. And I thought KPL was good, it sure smells nice.

Ballistol lubes very good, but the most surpricing thing is how long it lasts. It's also very good at corrosion protection.

And cheap.
