oil on grips - couple questions

I used to rub oil on my mistress. :D

Oil is simply used to darken the handles for cosmetic appeal.

Mineral oil is good, but also for use on ivory and such, but micarta doesn't need it.

cosmetic. I use mineral oil on the tigers and it really brings out the color !
I have had to repeat about once a week for last month, it is now starting to stay.

I like the black or tan micarta just as it is though.

I did use it on a snakeskin that darkened some, but the tiger's I have got looked dry and look much, much better with the oil.

Can you use mineral oil on the blade as well to protect it or is that a different kind of oil?

How about putting mineral oil on the G-10 handles to darken the color?

Rubbed some (a lot) mink oil on the stacked leather handles of my usmc ka-bar. Didn't help much with tightness, but definately looks better.

The handles will darken with use (you have to use it ;)), soaking up whatever's available, mineral oil / oil just helps speed things. My snakeskin GW has gotten real bright and well defined over time. Except the park that rides inside the leather sheath, the leather tends to soak out anything it can, so the area near the talon is always lighter when I've been using the leather sheath.

I've "oiled" some of my non-user handles (read: safe queens) for photo ops.

You can mineral oil the blade, it's food safe, but there are better things to use, I've never had a corrosion issue with INFI. I cleaned an FBM yesterday by chopping up the glacier in my front yard, and wiping it on my jeans.
My carbon steel blades get oiled.

2manyknives did an informal test on "protectants" during the last rainy season in Australia over in the toolshed. interesting read
