I just received a Lansky diamond kit. I always thought you used water with diamonds not oil. The Lansky came with oil and says to use it in the instructions. Whats the deal?

Ignore the instructions.

I generally just use a squirt bottle to periodically rinse my diamond stones and my DMT's load up really slowly, unless I am sharpening a ceramic.

Ditto, don't use the oil.

I don't use water during the sharpening process, either. I haven't found water added anything to the process except for dripping and making a mess. I sharpen dry on diamonds, then wipe down the stone with a damp cloth or sponge when I'm done.

The big thing with diamonds -- don't press too hard! That only rubs the diamonds off. Moderate pressure, let the diamonds do the work.
