I need some feedback. A friend had a red leather purse that a dog had chewed a hole in. She took it to a leather repair shop and they botched up the job. I covered it with a patch with her initials on it for looks. I was asked to do something else to the purse and the next time I looked at it it had acquired some dark spots over the back. Looks like oil stain on it. I have tried lighter fluid to help remove the spot. Alcohol didn't work and neither did a pile of cornstarch to help dry it up. Any ideas? I thought about a good oiling of the whole purse to blend it in if nothing else works. I didn't know where else to ask for recommendations, you help would be much appreciated.

It seems like that would take a long time to dry up, and not be noticable. Sounds like you've tried lots of options, I was thinking of oiling the entire purse, or maybe saddle soap?

my experience with oil on leather couchs is thats permanet any thing strong enough to remove oil will damage leather..---dennis

The only way I have been able to hide oil stains is by applying more oil around the old oil stains.

Best regards

Robin
