Oil Syrringes

For getting oil into joints, I was thinking about getting some mineral oil (getting away from the weapons grade stuff I used to use), and using a syrringe to get it into the joints. I am not thinking of some sort syrringe used by medical practitioners, but rather something like what Zebco reel oil comes in. I recall seeing them online once, but can't think of exactly what they were listed as, and can't recall where I saw them. What is the correct name for this item? Is this something that most (decent) hardware stores might stock? How tricky is filling them?

Oil is pretty dependable about migrating into joints. If you're trying to get it into the pivot of a folder for example, just apply a tiny drop with a toothpick. Oil syringes I've used tend to apply too much .... though those fine needles in cbw's link look like they might work nicely.

I like the needle oilers from brownells. I get the ones with the steel needles and fluorinated (I think, but it isn't just plain polyethylene) bottles.

I found an (empty) refillable precision oiler at a local Lowes (hardware, not grocery) for a few bucks. It is made of aluminum and is very easy to refill, it looks like a retractable ink pen, you just click the top and dispense the amount of oil you want. I have also seen precision oilers at Northern Tool and Equip. They are pretty hard to find, because they are small, and don't be suprised if you ask someone and they say they don't carry them (they probably do, they just don't know they do or don't know where they are) or they have no clue what you are talking about.

Sounds almost 100% like what I'm looking for. What department did you find your in? I'll probably have best luck finding one that way- and there's a Lowes Hardware maybe 3 miles from me! Never seen a Lowes grocery, but our Lowes hardware is right next to the Lowes Cineplex:D :jerkit: :)

Do a search for Hamilton Co. Gastight syringes. Some are made for oils. My brother- in- law turned me on to them for industrial use. You see them on Ebay occasionally. The one I use is the size of an ink pen.

i use syringes with oil in them occasionaly, a 3CC syringe w/a 18 gauge needle works great for lubing fine machinery, i just get mine from the local CVS pharmacy, if ya know the pharmicist it shouldnt be a problem, explain why ya need it, most junkies use insulin syringes anyway which are too small really to use for lubing stuff, i suppose this size could be used illicitly for steroids but my pharmicist hasnt ever said anything when i've asked to buy them, cost is about $2 or so..........your vet would also have some in this size.

I used to keep some Miltec stored in an insulin type syringe. That was a mistake. It turns out Miltec was corrosive to the syringe and after a while the Miltec would turn the the cuff of the needle into a sticky mush.

I don't know if mineral oil would do the same thing to an insulin syringe. Don't have anymore syringes for testing.
