My long recommended peanut oil finally turned gummy on the blade after some years on some seldom used kuks. The PX 2 Gal. can is still good, but it has not been exposed to air. It`s no big deal, but I thought that you should know. Dish soap will fix it. I used a fresh coat of peanut oil. It`s good for the wood. No rust. I don`t baby these either. I could have left the gummy coat, but it drags on the draw, and it picks up junk in the engraving. Quick can matter.
I just thought that you should know that the stuff will oxidize.

By the way, what defines a collector?

:
I am trying a regular medical grade mineral oil after trying most of the other stuff.
I still like the Ballistol-Lube for the ones that won't be used for food preperation and even at that it is still supposed to be non-toxic but I don't think I would like the taste much on an ndn round steak sandwich.
That's baloney for those of you who don't know about such thngs.

I hope its not related to your problem with mold. Did the oil go rancid?

LOL, the jokes on me I guess because I didn't use the "King's English" to make myself clear.

The baloney I was refering to is the ndn round steak sandwich.
It's kinda an inside joke among us ndns.

And kinda like the jokes we make about commodoties.
Actually the peanut butter and cheese aren't bad and the staples like flour and sugar and such can be used to make the finest frybread in the world!!!!
And for many of us it's proof that you can get and stay fat on them.

AFAIK the mineral oil is working for everyone using it and so far it hasn't turned rancid or thick.
And so far the Ballistol-Lube hasn't etched any of my khukuri's.

However Barb isn't too fond of the Ballistol-Lube's smell.
Perhaps if I put some clove oil in it?

Hey, bro, on that fry bread, get you a clove of garlic and strip it down to the tender part. Then when the bread comes out of the fryer and cools enough to be handled ( like a hot potato ) rub the garlic over the bread. Us transyvanians/magyars call it langos.

:
Bro I keep forgetting about the garlic and the frybread.
One of these days it will register before it's too late.

Makes me wonder if garlic is indigneous to this country or whether it is naturalized.
There's a ton of Wild Garlic that grows in the easement behind our house.
It can be embarrassing for the youngens when they go to dig Wild Onions in the spring as the Elders laugh and tease them badly if they bring in garlic instead.
That's at least one I didn't have to lern the hard way.

And after thinkng about it for a while I wonder what Le'Oel'du Garlic would do for khukuris besides keeping the vampires away?
(Let alone anything else within
scenting
distance.

)
Would it in fact be good for the blades?
