oil

I'm not too sure, but if i were you, i'd get some mineral oil (butcher block oil)
it's relatively cheap, and is non toxic. It worked better for me than WD-40, and i can prepare food with it if i need to.

I'm going to try olive oil and coconut oils to prevent rust because I see my RC-3 getting a fair amount of food prep usage.

Mineral oil is still a petroleum product and is probably used on wood blocks over other oils only to avoid rancidity issues. You could probably use just about anything on a knife as long as it prevented rust.

Mineral oil or liquid petroleum is a by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline and other petroleum based products from crude oil. It is a transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkalines (typically 15 to 40 carbons)[1] and cyclic paraffins, related to white petrolatum. It has a density of around 0.8 g/cm

I like to keep a small rag soaked with oil in an altoids tin for wiping down blades.

I went from 3 in 1, to olive oil so I could use my blades on food but after a while, the olive oil started to stink a bit.

Now I use mineral oil as it's ingestable and it doesn't turn.

Interesting:thumbup:

I use M-Pro 7 Gun oil on my blades. Same stuff I use on my Firearms. It is fantastic stuff, plus non toxic/hazerdous, as well as biodegradable and fairly odorless.

Try thompson center "bore butter". Its a paste, not a oil, but its 100% non-toxic, and makes a great rust preventative.

Forehead and nose oil will work in a pinch.

Just watch your blade angle when you wipe it in your forehead, you could cut your face clean off.

Please if you try this at home, have a phone handy.(with speaker option - both hands might be busy applying pressure) LOL

I've used BreakFree for a decade or so and found it to work great: lubes and also protects from rust, and it doesn't gum up like some mineral oils. I use it on knives, guns, fishing reels, door locks, anywhere you need a long-lasting lube.

That sounds delicious.:D

If your going to eat TC Bore Butter get it in the yellow tube, it tastes like Skoal (wintergreen), the one in the green tube tastes like turpentine :barf: !!!! With all seriousness though, it works great on knives and guns, been using it for several years now.
