how do i think it looks.... im not sure.....not as good as i thought... good but different. it changed the character of the knife. when it was dry, i saw more green and red , this process darkened it -its more vibrant but more uniform than i had hoped. but hey......i can always fool around with it and see what happens. the cherry is broken... now its time to chop!!!!!

Does this leave an oily residue on the handle that can make it difficult to use effectively?

breschini -- that looks horrible and I'm pretty sure it's ruined. If you want to sell it to me, let me know and i'll try to give you a good price... but with all that oil... well

:D :D only kidding - just jealous ;)

Yeah after seeing the oiled thread; some looks better than others oiled IMO. Nice thing about it is it reversible either through time or soap/water, as was previously mentioned.

Love the rustic looking mallet picture.

It'll changes as it wears. See below... unoiled, oiled, heavily fondled, and biscuitized.

no oily residue.......it actually feels dry. it was very wet for the first pictures, but i wiped it down with a clean white t-shirt and it evaporated to dry status in under an hour
i was tired when i did it and my first reaction was, oh no what have i done.
i love it now......

In a couple of months the handle will look exactly as it did from the factory, even without handling.

True statement. In fact it is only through handling that it will gain a 'character' similar to if you oiled it. Otherwise the oil dissipates....or maybe evaporate is a better word :)

I would ask Tony to post some pics of his oiled mistress, but I'm afraid he'd get another infraction.
