When there is a bit of friction in the blade movement, does one have to take the knife apart or is there a way to lube the blade without taking it apart?

That depends on what's causing the friction. Only under rare circumstances should you have to take the knife apart, although it isn't difficult. Take a look at this Sticky: How I clean my Sebenza (with pictures) by TedV.

Friction might be a bit of grit in there. Squirt some oil in and work the blade gently. You can use food-grade mineral oil from the pharmacy. Tuff-Glide is also good and comes with a needle-fine applicato to get a drop or two right where you need it. CRK's own fluorinated grease is always a best choice.

Try dropping some lube into the pivot area and a little behind the lock bar where it contacts the blade. Then work the blade open and closed a few times to distribute the lube into the pivot area and between the detent and the blade tang.

I do this about once a month, after having washed/scrubbed my Seb thoroughly with a toothbrush and dish soap to both clean and disinfect. I usually break the knife completely down a few times a year, and usually only when it really needs it. Mileage may vary, but it's worked for me for over 7 years!

May not be broken in yet....i would hold the knife and work the blade a few hundred times to aid in break in and then clean and oil it.

That's about right. If you want some peace of mind rinse some
alcohol over the pivot area, then wash it out with some liquid
hand soap, rinse and dry. Then add some drops of your favorite
lube on the pivot area and work it open/closed a while. New Sebs
can be a little stiff and may take a couple weeks to break in.

I have to wash out my old user '99 Lg BG42 Seb almost every day then
I lube it with a few drops of mineral oil. Still perfect (for me) to this day..

I would just take it apart clean it and put lubricant between all the components of the pivot. It's easy to do. Just do it in a shoebox or something similar so you don't lose any parts. I have tried break free, white lightning and other stuff but NOTHING works as good as CRK flourinated grease and at $15 it's a great deal.

Ron, do you have to break down your knife and clean it every day to keep it working?
