oiling bocote wood?

I heated some vinegar to about 110-120 degrees and forced a patina on a knife that had bocote scales. The knife was submerged for about 5-7 minutes. I think the vinegar penetrated the scales, but I'm not sure. Would it be advisable to work some oil into these scales? If so, any oil recommendations? It's my understanding that bocote is really dense so it's difficult to penetrate. What would be an adequate rubbing time in order to guarantee oil penetration?

Thanks in advance

Maybe sand with 400 or 600 grit, generously rub on a coat of Danish or Tung oil, wait until sticky (usually 30 minutes for Danish, 10-15 for Tung), wipe dry with clean no lint soft cloth. Wait 24 drying hrs to put on another coat+wait or sand progression to 1.2k to 2K grit. hand buff. Done.

Or do my lazy route:

Wipe scale with rag/papertowel soak with denature alcohol, generously rub on a coat of Danish or Tung oil, wait until sticky (usually 30 minutes for Danish, 10-15 for Tung), wipe dry with clean no lint soft cloth. Wait 24 hrs. A few quick rubs with papertowel or cloth. Done.
