Oiling Micarta scales?

I recently received a new fixed blade. One of the folks at that shop that made it said that I could oil the Micarta scales whenever I do my periodic blade oiling.

Is this is a thing? I’ve never oiled any of the Micarta scales on my other knives, and they all seem ok. But I’d like to do it if it’s something I should be doing.

Has no benefits, is mostly for cosmetics, and washes off easily. In my case, it happens by accident when oiling the blade, sometimes. Hard to oil the tang without touching the scales ....

It darkens the Micarta. Oiling has no other benefit on Micarta.
You can also use wax.
