Alright, so I am looking into cleaning my knives and putting them in tip-top working order. The only problem is I don't know what oil to use. I'm looking for a cheap ($5-$15) oil, any recommendations? Thanks. :)

The cheapest and most readily available would be rem oil in the hunting/fishing department of any big box retailer. You can also get break free CLP , Triflow and various other spray lubricants usually found in the automotive supply areas of those same stores. I would say the best of what I mentioned is the rem oil. Its kinda the cheap standard. Which knives are you planning on using it on? I only ask because certain knife types respond better to certain oils/grease. Still if you want cheap and good rem oil is hard to beat.

EDITED: Forgot to mention that if you would like to try a lube that is truly awesome you can contact Militec-1. If you pop them an email they will send you a sample of their oil and grease. I have had the same samples for years and have yet to run out.

I use Tuff Glide it's a little smelly, but it's excellent and the bottle comes with a needle applicator so you can get it into the pivot easily.

I use Break Free CLP for the blade and Hoppes #9 or the CRK grease on pivots. Rem oil is another good option for oiling blades, as anything that leaves a teflon residue will work wonders (generally any sort of CLP or 3 in one). If there's any chance that you'll be using the knife to cut food, I'd use mineral oil since it's safe for human consumption. That said, you will have to re-oil regularly with mineral oil as it gets gunked up and nasty after a few weeks (bacteria can grow in it and gradually break it down).

I use Hoppe's wipes for the blades, and either Hoppe's oil or another comparable gun oil for moving parts.

Hoppes for blade and nano oil for pivots. The little vial of nano oil will last for many years.

food grade mineral oil works just fine and if you use your knives for any food prep it won't hurt you.

When I'm trying to protect my non-stainless blades, I'll coat them with olive oil because it is food safe. When I am lubing up a pivot on a folder, I usually use standard 3-in-1 oil. It has always worked well for me. Rem oil is also a good choice.

Why do you use oils on the blades? (I'm a little new) also, are the oils for the blades and pivots completely different?

some types of steels will rust ,,the oil helps prevent the rusting on the blade,

you can use the same oil for the blade , pivot ,

Ballistol, its a ph altered mineral oil and it has served my guns very well over the years. Makes my knives super smooth.

On the higher end of what you mentioned, there is Ballistol--very good stuff.
