OK, 70 Forumites have a Sifu: Is it a collector or a user knife?

I'm split both ways (not being much of an official collector.

The size of the Sifu along would make it a useful deterrent and would give a !@#$ of an offensive reach if needed but I don't know about daily carry.

Like to hear from some others.

Blade

I'm split also. I have a black and a green. I have carried the black one a few times, best place found the ruler pocket on the leg of carpenter jeans.I think that it is a little big for normal times but if it gets shown the other guy's eyes bug-out and his mouth falls open giving you ample time to "beat feet" out of there if needed or to help them slow down their heart beat if not.
After I use it a few more times I'll have a better handle on it.

This post is a natural product.
The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects.

It is just too sweet of a knife to let sit in a drawer.

After I get it back from Corduroy it will be daily carry.

I equipped mine with a pocket clip at the pivot and it carries nicely in my front jeans pocket! This IS a carry knife!

Yup - I've been carrying mine around too. It feels so nice in my pocket, and it would be too sad to be without it for any extended period of time.

I have to say I've very pleased it came with no pocket clip.

Yekim - presumably Corduroy has your Sifu to fashion a sheath for it? Will these be offered generally, and does anyone else know of people developing Sifu sheaths? I'm thinking multi carry option kydex...

Kallisti,

Cord is attaching a titanium clip and replacing the bushings in my Sifu. I just can't see it in a sheath myself. (At least not for me, you skinny guys have an easier time with these things..

Depends on your attitude.

I do carry a knife with the notion that I would use it to try to sustain a life, I live in CA where folders are legal to carry concealed while fixed-blades are not, the Sifu looks like about the most optimum, application specific, life sustaining folding knife I've seen, so...

I never buy anything just to collect it, but the Sifu works as effectively as it looks.

A user. Already used. Not daily carry. Might use it for those occasions where I want a substantial knife, but do not want/need a sheath knife. An example might be in a park on short citified trails, where you normally would have little use for a knife-unless you wanted to visit with the park rangers

but on the other hand want one for emergencies or for those occasional knife chores. Of course the SIFU is so large you might get less unwanted attention if you also carried a smaller knife for mundane chores.....an Umfaan would be a perfect companion knife to the SIFU

The pictures posted are after my sanding efforts on the handle...not that one could really tell from the picture.

I've used mine already - to cut up a big loaf of egg bread after services in my congregation, where the other guy was struggling with the dullest knife he could find in the kitchen there. It made short work of the egg bread.

They know me well enough there that nobody cringed.

LMAO, James.....I can picture doing that! LOL

Blade - I am not a collector, may be an accumulator of knives. Gotta use 'em or get rid of em!

The blade length makes it illegal to carry in the state I live in

. It stays inside or around the yard to prune some bushes

.

I call my green LEFTY - SIFU, a "POCKET SWORD". BIG, UGLY, and NASTY! Works great on taking out splinters and cleaning the fingernails, too. LOL!

Ha haaa! Just when I was about to ammend my first reply saying that the Sifu might not be a "user" in the usual utility sense of the term, James tells us he is using it at church(temple?). Well it would make one heck of a bread knife, though I probably never would have thought of it. Good work James!

Gotta admit, I've joined the user crowd.

I thought about it about as long as it took to post this topic, then decided its just too nice not to have handy.

Besides, there are places in the Quarter where a Sifu is definately a plus. Now to figure how to get it there by air.......

It's a private superstion of mine that if a knife looks really mean, I want to make its first cutting chore something very very peaceful. Like cutting some bread after saying the appropriate blessing. It can't hurt.

I got two so one's for collecting and the other's for using.

Seriously wondering what James Mattis cuts first with his really[/] friendly looking knives,

Still wondering when the production ones will be out?

I tried to keep it a collector piece, but it kept creeping into my pocket.Oh well, I guess it`ll be a user. Should have gotten two.
