Well lets see what folks might or might not want...
So click and see what happens...

Also note that you can select more than one option...:D
Even though I selected three points, it counts as one vote
so it doesn't skew things too much...

Like the police the calypso can be made one way with various
runs to satisfy limited demands. The calypso could also be offered
in stainless steel / FRN and Aus-8 blade as price knife.

The micarta / vg-10 model could be reserved as a "special" version
by useing various colors of micarta. There are just a lot of ways to
offer the calypso that would help get it into ELU hands that haven't
been tried before.

Whatever is eventually decided this design derserves a second chance.
In my opinion it's that good

What's ELU?
I don't mind the original, but if using FRN could help make it cheaper so I could get my hands on one (I'm a poor student), all the better :p

I don't really know what could be done to resurrect the large Calypso. Make it cheaper with different colored frn handles and a few more people might be tempted to get one. Maybe a higher end knife with some of the suggestions listed in the poll would appeal to some. IMHO,it was just about perfect, the way it was. For what ever reason, it didn't seem to speak to enough people. I'm glad I have one though and I'm keeping it.

calyth - ELU is something like end line user, meaning the consumer. Us, in this case.

If Sal's previous comments on discontinued models is true here, then the Calypso probably didn't sell well (or well enough) simply because it had a flat grind (Vs hollow grind) blade. The Calypso Jr was very popular among forum members, however, I would guess the general public did not take well to it vs. Delica/Endura.

Gary, you know I share your enthusiasm for the Large Calypso ;)

My personal preference would be to just bring back the original, and also to introduce it in a 3 - 3.5" size. The black micarta is very classy, the grips are great, and that blade shape...ooooooh :D

Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing it a trendy blade steel either....

I voted for bringing back the original Calypso.

But Gary, you forgot about us G10 nuts. How about plain black G10 handles with dual nested steel liners, for us peeps who like grippy but hefty handles.

Looks like the S30V blade (10) and carbon fiber handle (9) are in the lead for a limited run. Of course, that's throwing out the original variation (12) which is really in the lead. You can buy one of those already so it doesn't count. :D

Before I get crushed w/ responses, they are discontinued but they are out there. A new, sweet limited run of Calypso is not. Yet. :)

had one and they are classy and cool, the thing is that i can get 2-3 other spydies for the same investment. an FRN wouldn't have the same
flash but would be much more cost friendly, maybe $50, that would be an incredible deal...

Sorry, guys. But I feel that due to the cost of the micarta calypso
not enough ELU's bought it build a base of support now.

A shame too. A price FRN / Aus-8 calypso migh be just
the ticket to get folk's aquainted with this great design.

Oh, well:rolleyes:

I voted for the "forget the whole idea" because the full-size Calypso is very similar in design with the Police. My preference is for Spyderco to offer the Police with more variation on blade and handle/scale combinations.

The Calypso is an awesome cutting machine, with it 4" VG10 blade flat ground to a whisper thin edge, it is vorpal. If it was tip up carry, and had a larger spyderhole, it would be perfect.
The only folder that slices better than the Calypso for me is an opinel with a file sharpened blade.
The micarta handle feels great in the hand, it carries well for having the clip on the wrong end, locks up strong. I think the Calypso was the best knife Spyderco ever made.
