I saw the bonecutter in Yangdu's DOTD for 2/7. I really like the shape and finish. Is it only known as the "bonecutter" or is here a formal name? How would I go about ordering one? HI has so many different models that I would love to have (however I have to watch my $$).

The Bonecutter is a very limited production model that was designed and initially only made by Sgt. Khadta (not sure on the spelling) who is not a regular Kami employed by HI. They are very highly valued by HI collectors so your chances of finding one is slim.

Luckily it appears that other kami's are making their own versions so there is hope for you yet.

Email or call Aunt Yangdu and ask if you can order a Bonecutter. Be specific on details. You need to look in the sticky: Himalayan Imports link library. There is where all the instructions are. Enjoy.

The Bone Cutter was one that was never on my radar as there are just SO MANY khuks that I have lusted after over the last ten years. However, that 15"er haunted my dreams last night. I've really taken a shine to stout 15" khuks in a shoulder holster for day to day work. On top of that, the pug-nosed point just looks all business.

I'm glad to see them starting to show up in some fashion. As soon as I have the funds, I plan on sharking one;)

My Murali Bonecutter is 16.25" and 24 ounces and is as close to perfection as I can imagine. At this size and weight this kukri is a very good medium chopper and a good/vg heavy chopper. You could go an ounce or two heavier at the 16" length but I wouldn't go heavier than that. It definately chops above its weight class and equals or exceeds all of my 18" models designed for heavy chopping and at that weight is still as light as many of the smaller models such as the 15" AK or BAS.

I would not recommend going any smaller or lighter if you plan on heavy chopping unless you are trying to go smaller for a carry/hiking kukri. In that case a smaller one "should" out perform any other lighter smaller model.

As stated earlier, the Bonecutter was a Sgt.Khadka knife-I don't know if it was made by other Kami's until recently. Bhakta is now making the Sgt.'s knives under his supervision and I don't think that Sgt. Khadka is forging at this time and may not again, however,Bhakta's work is excellent. I was lucky enough to snag a Sgt. made Bonecutter last year, and I would likely not part with it for twice the price I paid.

I have a Bhakta made CAK and it's nearly flawless. I'd feel confident in buying anything made by him.

+ 1 on Bhakta Kami , got my M43 from him , built like a TANK ! and this was my face for a few hours:D face muscle was sore .
