I have an HP Pavilion Multi Media Pc. It has a tv tuner in it and an HDMI out jack. I also have an HDtv which has a DVI in jack on it. At the suggestion of an HP tech, I bought an HDMI cord and a DVI to HDMI adapter and hooked my pc up to my tv so I can watch movies and programs I save off tv onto my pc. Needless to say, it don't work! :barf:
I spent maybe 20 minutes in chat with another HP tech trying to figure out the problem with no resolve, no big surprise there! I figure it must be a software problem. I made some changes, the only ones I could figure, and at least I got the pc stuff to show up on my tv, only problem was, it was friggin huge and no matter what I set the resolution at, it wouldn't fix it. Oh yeah, I still couldn't get the video to show up!! I use Windows Media Center for the tv and dvd stuff.
What do you guys think I need to do to fix this problem??

I have another one for you guys !
I'm on cable internet and we just upgraded to digital cable tv, so now we have a box for tv. I have the cable for the pc coming out of the wall so I can only get the lower end channels on it. I tried hooking it up to the box so I can get the higher end/digital channels and not only could I not get those channels but I also couldn't get online either. I called the cable company's tech help and they are useless!
You guys give me any help with this problem?
I really appreciate your time and expertise guys!!!!!!
Thanks ell muchos!!! :D

So you're running the cable input to the PC's tuner card and hope to output stored programs to the TV yes? For basic quality content, that should be possible. Which tuner card and software are you using? You might have to go with a supported cable card rather than any old TV tuner

Are you looking to get HD content on your PC via cable?
You can't get HD cable content on a PC with any aftermarket parts but have to buy a specialty PC from certain vendors. The content owners are scared to death of people recording HD quality content on a PC as they figure they'll lose control of the revenue stream.

The early reviews of these expensive PCs have not been good, mostly because the cable card didn't work and the cable installers couldn't make them work.

Does NVidia GeForce 8400 GS sound right?
ViXS Tuner Card (NTSC)
That's the best I can figure out, sorry!
As far as the play back, i don't care if it's hd or not, I just want to be able to save a program and watch it some other time.
Thanks!!!

If all else fails you may try using a VGA cable, I suppose your HDTV has the VGA input, same as comes out of the PC for a regular computer monitor. I have a 10 year old Compaq PC with Puppy Linux connected via VGA cable to my 32" LCD HDTV and it looks great. I'm using 1024x768 resolution, I have not been able to get widescreen but I guess it's because of my old machine.

I have digital Cable TV and do not get the high definition channels, they cost extra, you may have to check with your Cable TV provider.

Luis, my pc is just a couple months old and the monitor hook up is a dvi jack. When I first got it, I planned on using the tv as the sole monitor and bought a Monster dvi cable to hook em together. It works fine but the resolution is way out of whack! I adjusted it 50 times and just couldn't find settings that worked. Is there some way to change the ratio of the screen? My pc monitor is almost square where the tv is more rectangular. If I could change the ratio, I think that would help.
Thanks Luis!!!!

Personally I can't help, but I found something that may at the following link:

http://infopirate.org/hdmi-lcdtv-vista-ultimate

This is for a Telefunken HDMI LCDTV 32 inches but I guess that it will work for others as well, though you may have to use a value different than 720p depending on what your HDTV supports.

...Open the Nvidia Control Panel - Select setup multipme displays - make
sure that colne is the option seletced then make sure that the TV is
the primary display,
Apply the settings
Go to change the sinal or HD format and now only the options that are
compatible with my display are listed.
Select 720p and click on apply and the entire desktop is shown.
I can still have a higher resolution (1680 x 1050) but I have to lower
the refresh rate to 30Hz...

You cannot save using an HDMI cable. It was designed to prevent copying (pirating) and when used you can watch all you want but you cannot save.

Don't ask me how it works, I too found out the hard way.............:(
