that I need a Reeve knife. Being somewhat new to the world of knives, I don't know a lot about custom knives. Why should I or should I not have a custom knife or two in my meager collection. Having recently retired from local government service (27 years), I just recently started collecting knives. Have a few SOGs and a couple of Benchmades. Really getting to like the assisted type of folding knives. Either mechanical assist like the SOG and some BMs. What does Mr. Reeve have in this area? Not much into fixed blades as yet. Thanks for any information and direction.

No open-assists, no autos, no OTF's here...

Get Sebenza. Use it hard. It's the best no-frills working folder on this planet, true refference for "folding knife".

If you need to be convinced... just spend couple of days with us, right here at home (called also "Chris Reeve Knives Forum" :D ).

I am off to my local knife pusher later this afternoon. He has several Chris Reeve knives on display. Will most assuredly play with a few. Who knows, might just add one to my collection. Thanks for the information. Definitely appreciated.

bought my first Chris Reeve. Full size Sebenza CGG. The "In God We Trust" model. I must say, with my limited experience, I am truly impressed. Paid way more than I ever have for a knife. But, after talking to the professionals at the knife shop, I was convinced I, at least, had to have one in my collection. I do have one question tho. I notice the action is a bit stiff. I can open it fine when I push on the thumb stud and flick the wrist at the same time. Opens smooth as silk. Just when I give the stud a flick, it only opens part way. Will this get better with use? Anyway, I am extremely happy with my purchase. Thanks again for all your input.

Richard

Congrats! That's a very good choice! Now the best part of the deal is ahead of you... you just have to experience it :)

Richard, sebs are not made to be flicked open, like say a spyderco. They are just a straight working knife and tough as hell.

I always buy semi custom or custom knives. I can't go back to production now. No, I'm not a knife snob, but I really can tell the differences in fit and finish.

Richard,
Nice choice for a first Sebenza. Yes, as you use the knife more it will smooth/loosen up. These folders have such tight tolerances, all new Sebenza's, large and small are tight at first. You may want to have some fun and use that wrench it came with to break the knife down and baby it with your favorite lubricant. I use Chris's own fluorinated grease. Works great! A small coating also applied to the blade and then wiped off will help to protect the S30v blade for the long run. Meaning that the grease will actually bond itself at the molecular level to the steel.

We are small but great group of guys here on the forums. We know, and some of have years(10 myself) of owning and using Chris Reeve products. So any questions you might have, can and will be answered here. Heck, even Anne Reeve herself chimes in from time to time. Enjoy your new pocket pal and use it hard. You know the word "Sebenza" means "Work".

I think I see a small inlayed Sebbie in your future....:D

Well Richard I've also noticed that new Sebs are a bit stiff sometimes and yes they get smoother. Once you get the courage up to take the blade out, clean the washers, put on a dab of CRK flourinated grease and put it back together correctly, you'll find an amazing improvement in smoothness. I think it's because maybe these knives sit in boxes and aren't opened for a couple months.;)

I am really liking my new CRK. Spent half the evening sitting in my favorite chair, flicking the blade open and closed while watching TV. And occassionally just admiring the quality of workmanship. Everything about the knife speaks quality. With XMAS just around the corner, I see myself getting maybe another CRK or two. I am very impressed. And, yes, I already lubed the pivot (I do this with all my knives and tools). My knife pusher also sold me on the CRK lube. I like the syringe idea. Gets the stuff just where you want and need it.

IME, after a month or two it will get easier to open. I think it's due to the washers smoothing out, and the development of muscle memory. After that take it aprt and clean it and relube, you should be in good shape.

You have to get a Sebenza!! Every knife collector NEEDS a Sebbie in their collection!! But, be prepared to look at your other knives differently, after to get a Sebenza!! CONRATUALTIONS on the new CRK!!!

Congratulations on acquiring your first Sebenza. It's hard to own just one, though, so keep the ol' credit card warmed up. ;) I think you'll find that the Sebenza has a pretty brief break in period. All of mine are very, very smooth.
