The Y2K fiasco is only a day away. What does everyone think is going to really happen? Are you heading for the bunker or are you going to be watching Dick Clark? Maybe you will be watching Dick Clark in the bunker.

I'm going to be at a bonfire with some friends and family about a 150 miles from home. I'm not too worried. My biggest concern is the power going out for short periods. I get my power from a rural co-op and last summer they flat out said that they had done nothing. I have a wood stove and a good supply of wood so I should be ok. A year and a half ago I bought every book on the subject and was quite worried about it. I have kept up on the current info and I feel the U.S. should come through pretty good. It is the Third World and Mid-East countries that will be hardest hit. Russia doesn't sound too prepared either. I think that our economy could slow down as a result. What do you think? What supplies have you stocked up on? Oh, and so I stay on topic, what knife will be on or near you when the clock strikes twelve?

Take care, (AND a big knife)
Jim

P.S. If nothing does happen, there will be plenty of naysayers and arm chair quarterbacks who say that it was all a big hoax. They don't get it. It was all of the people shouting from the roof tops that got people off of their butt's to fix the problem.

I don't expect utilities problems in my area. I kind of expect some terrorist stunt in one of the big cities. I say 70% probability something goes boom. If there are more than 20 US casualties I expect some cruise missiles to express our disapproval. I give a 1% chance of gas or biological weaponry (it's getting pretty easy these days). If more than a few hundred casualties I expect some ground troops to express our displeasure.

I don't expect any serious consequences to the nation at large. I expect Time Square and National Mall security to be tight enough to discourage bombers at those venues. (You could see CBW) I would think likely secondary targets would be Atlantic City, Alexandria, Boston, Las Vegas, Hollywood, Miami, or Houston.

Jim,

This is a darn good thread, but should be over in the Community area, so I'm moving it there.

Folks...answer up in that area please!
