I come unto you all with knife in hand.;)

Thanks to Jon for gifting me my first traditional type of knife I am surprised in how much I use it.

I've decided to pocket in my everyday carry a framelock or linerlock and I am going to include more of a traditional knife. It's a huge step for me, cutting the chord of having the bigger Ti framelock with a smaller liner lock.

I've decided on two different types of knives. I want a Congress type knife, if that's the one with four different blades and then another knife, that one can have just one blade (if I like it) but the main blade has to be a wharnecliff {sp}. I would prefer the one with the wharnie to be the only blade unless I can't find what I want, then the other smaller blade can basically be anything.

I'm open to GEC or any manufacturer other than a custom that costs a couple hundred dollars or more. I thought about checking Etsy but then that would be used, I kind of want to have something brand new. Can you guys maybe steer me in the right direction?

I'll take the info you all provide along with my research and make the decision. Yee haw!!

As for the single bladed slipjoint with a wharncliffe, do you have any size/steel requirements? I can name a few...
- Case Swayback Gent
- GEC #47 Viper
- Scagel wharncliffe fruitport
- GEC #55 Houndstooth (wharncliffe version)
These are probably the most popular single bladed wharnies out there. Check them out.

Case Copperlocks with a single Wharncliffe are still around, and quite popular.

For a congress pattern, the #61 and #62 GECs are beautiful.

For a wharnie main blade, I like the Case Swayback line....

As for the Congress knives, be aware that not all Congress knives have 4 different blades...many have a pair of identical blades, such as 2 identical main blades, and 2 identical pen or coping blades. I bought this German made Kissing Cranes because of price, and because it has 4 different blades...

As a side note, all Case Congress knives come with 4 distinct blades....

A buddy of mine bought his Grandson the Case Seahorse Whittler with Wharncliff main blade for Christmas (had stag handles) - I was very impressed with the knife in hand - substantial main blade (never cared for the Seahorse via photo's but that changed when I handled it). I don't own one now, but will one of these days. OH

I really like the swaybacks myself. Man, a copperlock with a warncliff sounds great. If it available in cv I might need one of them myself.

I recommend Boker for a congress pattern, the congress is my favorite pattern and it's a pattern I feel Boker excels at. You can find old Boker congress patterns new in box on online auction sites for short money, or you can pickup a still in production Carver Congress from a variety of sites, when it comes to Boker shop around prices fluctuate a bit between vendors as much as $30. One thing to look for if you go the Boker route is to look at the shield on the handle and make sure it says SOLINGEN this will insure it is 100% made in Germany, if the shield says Germany, it is a sign that it has been outsourced.

Here is a older larger stag Boker congress 4 1/4" closed Sheepsfoot, Spear, coping, & pen blades, it's a solid knife I use for utility task, and carpentry.

This is the currant production congress readily available the Boker Carvers Congress, slightly smaller at 3 7/8" sheepsfoot, spey, coping, & pen, very solid and sturdy, I just used it to fine tune some coping cuts on baseboard, I haven't used it as much as the large one but, it a great knife with a exquisite fit and finish

As for a wharncliffe single blade, Jeff ( Rockgolfer ) seems to really like his houndstooth and the new Viper from Gec looks real nice.

Here is a congress link, lots of variations to the pattern

I agree with the Boker Congress pattern. Beautiful knives with great fit and finish.

Another great Congress is the Queen #32 in amber carved stag bone. Although it has four blades, they are only two styles--Sheepsfoot and Pen--and it's pretty big at 4 inches. If you can live with that, you will have a beautiful example of the Congress. Those covers are gorgeous.

The GEC #47 Viper looks really good. If you want two blades, I suggest taking a look at the Norfolk.

You could have a Congress pattern with a Wharncliff main blade if you find the right Irish Jack. Fight'n Rooster made several.
