Hope this is the right place to post this. Ive been here a while, but still getting the "lay of the land."
So...I bought this Starmate what feels like a long time ago.
And unfortunately at that time, boxes didnt matter, so i have no box. :/
It is dead centered and smooth. No blade play in any direction. It is the original with the Terzuola medallion and the (inset?) lock. Blade has original factory edge. Pocket clip is original but a little stretched. I have never disassembled it. The scales are a little dusty, and im nervous to try to clean them.
So im hoping for some help on the value of this knife. I see them on the bay for between $400-$600. Is this unreasonable? I dont want to be the "hole" that posts this for an unreasonable amount. Dont need the flack, or to rip anyone off. Lol.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all so much.

You see them for sale on ebay for 400 and more but that doesn't mean much. Yours is used too, you'd do well to get 200 for it imo. In fact I sold one here nib with chrome clip for about that.

Thanks for the input. :)
Just to clear things up. Mine is used as in, "was in my pocket" for a couple weeks way back when. Blade has NO scratches or use.

I just told you my opinion. People on ebay list things really high hoping to cash in. Doesn't mean much unless it sells. I probably could have got 300 or more for mine at one time. I kept it past that time and got less. These Spydercos have a way of going up awhile after being discontinued then they cool way off.

I agree. No hard feelings. I disagree with the bay pricing too.
Hence why i started the thread.
Thanks again. :)

Nevertheless ebay might still be a good resource. If you are a member you can do a search for completed listings and see what people are actually bidding for them. What people ask for them might be irrelevant but what people actually bid on them is what sets the value.

I just recently started selling off some of my collection.

You can easily do a search for the price of past sales (auction or otherwise) on eBay for any item sold there.

My quick look at the sale of "vintage" Starmates (w/the medallion) on eBay for the last 2 months revealed sale prices from $100 to $400; the prices varying based on condition (new vs used, etc.) and whether someone was able to get one cheap at auction while no one else was looking which often happens. On the other hand, NIB versions of the re-issue of the Starmate have sold from around $150-250 with prices varying for the same reasons.

I personally bought a NIB newer version of the Starmate for $232. Paid more than I had to because I wanted the knife NOW (had to return a Starmate that I bought on the Exchange because of an unknown defect); the EB seller was a high volume dealer that I could rely on who offers free 30 day returns; and also because there were no knives offered at auction at the time by sellers I that I had any confidence in.

Based on this price history, I'd put a median value of about $300 on a vintage Starmate and of about $200 for the reissue, with more or less being offered depending on condition; ie., new/used, box/no box, etc. As for the valuation of the vintage Starmate above, I personally would put a value of it at no more than a fixed price of $200-250, based on it's apparent condition and the absence of a box/papers, and it probably would sell for less at auction.

FWIW, I always do a "past sales" search on eBay for any knife that I want to buy here, there or anywhere else to give me an idea of the reasonable market valuation for the knife in question. I think any other buyer would be foolish not to do so likewise.
