So, here are the contenders. Now I couldnt find the other gerber saw So, I used a small fishing style knife that I got from a friend of mine, who was a fishermen in Nova Scotia.

Now, to start things off, I began With the Victorinox Camper.

p3230077ds7.jpg

Now, it cut very well, though didn't have a long enough blade, It was pretty comfy to hold, I think the teeth were a lil' bit diffrent than the others, which made it not as good as the rest.

p3230060tf7.jpg

BTW, for all the hand helds, I did a test of 50 strokes on each to see how far they would go through the 1X3.

Now for the Vic OH fireman.

p3230076ur4.jpg

Now this tool cut extremely well. After 43 full cuts(push and pull, like every other) It was too the point of just about going through, which I didnt do for some reason.

p3230063ex6.jpg

This tool I am more than happy to have along in my new psk.

Now were on too the "Fishing" Now my friend used his all the time while we were in the woods, It works for small brachs, mabye 1''-2'' circumference.

p3230065gt7.jpg

Now, this obviously wont saw through anything, on a thin green brach, with enough force, you can "cut/saw" you way through it, its not made for sawing, see that little notch between the other cuts, yeah, thats after ten strokes.

But, it does notch very well, have a look.

Great photos, Great review with real info that can be used (and deciphered) by all.

So, now for the Leathermans.

Blast:

This also cut very well(far left cut), I've made a "homemade" latace fence with this tool and it did fine. After 40 strokes, it would have gone through on 42, or 43 but I stopped.

p3230071xx5.jpg

Wave:

This is my favorite tool, and it rides with me most of the time.

p3230074in8.jpg

Now, after 42 strokes it made it this far(far left)

I more less wanted to try these things out after some of the recent "saw talk" around the forum.

So, continued on the next page. Fiskars and Gerber saws.

Fiskars:

This saw comes with me in my new possibles kit, And frankly, I love it. Its simple, well desgined and sturdy, for 20 bucks, imho you can't get a better saw.
Now this test was done on a piece of 4X4.
p3230082xa3.jpg

After 100 strokes, it did pretty good, and remember, If you've ever counted the amount of pushs and pulls, they go by pretty fast.

p3230083kw9.jpg

p3230085sr1.jpg

Gerber:

This has been used an amazing amount. I've had it for about 2 years and used it almost every weekand, up untill I moved to Alberta.

So, its lock up it good, nice and sturdy, I moved to the Fiskars because I like the teloscopic blade abit more, Plus it gave me a reason to buy a new one.

And after 100 strokes, it came to almost the same place as the Fiskars. Not bad at all.

So there ya go guys. All in all, I like all of these tools, and am more than happy to of bought them. For the price, you cant beat the fiskars and gerber saws Plus none of this made in china stuff.
I think any and most of the multitools and Sak's are about the same in cutting power( depending of size) The only tools I dont know about are the gerber ones because they use jig saw blades iirc. So, depend on the blade, you will get diffrent results.
If you looking for a small knife for a psk, the camper would work great, want a step up the oh fireman is your best friend.
Also I want to say, I tried my best to keep the power and and speed the smae and the pushs and pulls, as with the saws.

So, if you guys have any questions and comments, please let me know.

I've got a question: Why didn't you wait until the weekend so you didn't have to stand in snow? :D

Seriously, though: Do you ever have problems with the blade on the Fiskars sliding back up into the handle? It looks like it's only friction from tightening that knob that holds it in place.

Thanks for the review!

Edited to add: Could you show the Gerber and Fiskars working on the 1x3 as well? It's not easy to compare the bigger saws to the smaller ones since they were working on different materials.

Cool thread! Awesome stuff. I use an opinel folding saw. I like it.

+1 on the Wave being great. From personal experience however, if you cut too much plastic pipe it will dull the saw slightly.

Very good review, for the gerber and fiskars, which do you prefer?
I really like that retractable design for the fiskars.

Yeah, I have to say I like the fiskars the most, I just seems, better :D

I dunno, its alot more stonger then I though it would be, and actually tightens up very securly.

But im on my way out, I have to pick up the hunter revolver :D

Oh, and when I get back, Im going to try out the revolver saw, fiskars and gerber on some 1X3.

This is a very nice test and you rock for going to the trouble of posting it:thumbup:

Yea know, this is the first real long one i've done, and I was amazed at how long it took to put the pictures and everything up, Man, might do something like it again

Cool test. I did a similar, but not as in-depth one, a while ago and like you I was really pleasantly surprised by how well the Blast did. They have the tooth design down pretty good I think.

Start your own web site! Run real tests that humans can count on and use! Have fun and get rich doing it! (then hire us as consultants).:D

Wow, thanks for all the kind words guys, makes me want to do more, haha not today though. But as soon as I can get my hands on the hunter revolver, I'll be giving it a work out for sure.

Nice Test, Though not surprising, the bigger blades did better. I love my gerber saw and the fiscars is high on my "To buy" list. My wave has cut through a ton both in the woods and at my various jobs, and my fireman I just started carrying more and heve grown to love it.

My only problem when I go afield is which one to leave at home :D
