Some one please help me make a desicion. My OCD is kicking in hard right now:). Trying to decide between getting an Al MAr Mini Sere 2000 or a Spyderco Sage. The Spyderco seems like more knife for the buck( I cant find one localy to handle in person before buying it) but I have always liked the Mini Sere.( have handled that one)
It all started with a pleasant thought of getting a new folder. I can really only buy one at this time. So ofcourse the next thought was wich one to get. That is when the madness started. I have got it narrowed down to those two.
I am probaly going to have to start medication next week to help me thru this trying time:) Oh God!!!!! another desicion. Pills....injection...or both.

Personally, I'd take the Spyderco. However, I'm more fond of full, flat-ground blades, and that's what the Sage has. It all depends on what you're looking for. The Mini-SERE 2K is more "tactical," whereas the Sage is more of a "gent's" slicer, in my opinion. What are you planning to use it for?

What are you planning to use it for?

It is going to be an EDC. Probably mostly lighter cutting...(rope, plastic containers, cardboard... whatever....etc)

I think one of the things I like about the Al Mar is that it is aliitle smaller but still has a big knife feel..to me anyway. Does that make sense?
Again I havent handled the Sage, So I cant comment on it.
Anyways, thanks for your comments.

They're both liner locks. I had SERE and it is a very solid folder. It also carries very low in the pocket. It's an impresive knife. I haven't handled a Sage so I can't speak to that. From what I've seen on the net it looks pretty impressive also.

I would get the Mini-SERE myself. The Sage looks alot like the Tenacious, so you could get the Al Mar and a Tenacious and you wouldn't have to choose. The Tenacious comes in at under $40.

BJE....That is not a bad idea.......Although most of the knives I used to buy were lower end ($30.00 range). After I started getting a few nicer ones, I just never grab for them anymore.. unless I am going somewhere that I have a chance of losing it or being confiscated for some reason.
With the exception of the steel being alittle lower grade, the Tenacious looks like alot of knife for the $$$. Thanks for your comments.

I've had both. I still have the Sage. The Al-Mar is absolutely top-notch in F&F and as sharp O-O-B as any prod knife I've ever held. It carries very low with the clip attached to the end of the handle instead of the side (not a plus for me; I prefer mine riding a bit higher). My problem with it was that it just wasn't a useful everyday user for my kind of work. The knife was a little too light for my taste and the blade was a different profile than I like. Great materials and workmanship, though. And I have no problem at all with Al-Mar's liner lock. I still have my Nomad and will be keeping that one. Like all Al-Mars, I think that it's a little pricey for what it is.

The Sage is typical Spyderco... high quality materials, excellent workmanship, a lot of thought, experience, and ELU input in the design, the gold standard of factory sharpening. The liner lock is stout for a medium-duty folder and very trustworthy, the handle scales are nicely textured CF so that they're grippy as well as light and strong, and the FG leaf shaped blade is S30V which I prefer very sightly over VG10 for my users. And the price is more reasonable than the mini-SERE, IMAO.
