Shame on me, huh? I have an S30V Blur as well as a regular Sandvik one, so I de-assisted the S30V since it opened relatively slowly compared with the Sandvik anyway. I think that's because the blade is heavier since it's not hollow ground. Anyway, no problem opening it at all and the lack of a torsion bar is one less thing to worry about. Still, I can see the value in an assisted blade... it's just not as much fun to play with.
