Hey,,,,where r all my "helping hands"????? Gee,,,,,I hope I didn't offend anyone???? And if I did,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well,,,,GETOVERIT !!!!!!!!!

Bought my FIRST knife book today,,,,,Mind u,,,,I am/was not the collector of knives,,,my late husband was,,,,,,,so I have been surrounded by blade books, mags, u name it it's here,,,for over 40 years now,,,,so purchasing these books (total of 2),,,,was a big deal for me,,,very emotional,,,so I browsed over to the monthly publications section, pulled out 3 blade mags. and sat down w/a cup of joe,,,,scanning the photos,,,recognizing names, admiring all the mind blowing new knives and their patterns,,,,,it was really cool....

Sooooooooo,,,,to get back to the "books",,,,,,I have become so obsessed with this blade stuff that I realized everything was over ten years old,,,,hence MY first purchase, hence browsing Levine's book,,,,comparing them to my own catalog,,,and realizing that I have been left with a vast array of knives,,,,,,one of them being a

V-42 Stiletto w/thumbprint/skullcraker (pointed)/leather sheath
Issue $2,500. Prototype $3,000./$4,00.
WHAT'S A PROTOTYPE??

I'm here... 'Course, I'm not a "helping hand"... More like "big trouble" in the form of a drunken Busseite... Then again, I don't think there are many non-drunken Busseites... :D

A "Prototype" is the first one made of a new design, a model to make the production units from. They are usually more money because they are the "First" one made or sometimes there is a limited run, they are usually marked "Prototype" or "Limited Edition". Hope that helps. :D

Prototypes are also usually slightly different (though not much) from the actual production blades... Slightly different handles, longer blades, etc.... Hope this helps...

Thank you gentlemen......

I did notice that Mr. Levine's 5th Edition did not mention the Busse knife,,,,,,,what gives with that,,,???

Mona, Welcome! :D

I believe that I'm listed in the back under custom makers. Not sure about anything else.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your husband, our thoughts and prayers go out to you and yours.

Jerry

According to Mr. Levine the Extensively Revised 4th edition, copyright 1997, was the last one he had control over due to some publication changes. There is a more complete explaination in his forum here on BladeForums.

Mona, you're always welcome, here but when it comes to other historical knives, especially older styles, I suggest Bernard levine's forum. He can probably answer any questons you may have.

Oh, Oh,,,,,,here we go again :)

Sure do wish I had a BASIC 3,,,,,,,rather than a BASIC 9,,,:)
