I never thought I would buy a Sebenza because of the price. I lost out on a handmade a couple of days ago (I'm thinking of special ordering one from the maker) and I'm in withdrawal now. I found a used Small Classic Sebenza with the Unique Graphic and Hematite inlay for a very good price. I just sent payment for it. I will finally find out once and for all if the Sebenza "is all that". Actually I'm quite excited and hope I'm not disappointed. I wanted one with a little something extra and this one fit the bill. If I don't like it, I am pretty confident I can sell it for what I paid for it. Thanks to a couple of previous posters in this forum for the idea of buying a used one first to see how I like it. Who knows, I may have started something here that I will regret ...and so will my wife.

You will love the Sebbie! I am sorry that you missed out on that Custom; but am very happy that you are able to order one from Brian. Congrats on the Sebbie!!

I felt the same way. Bought my first one the end of 11/06, now I own 3. Also bought the Green Beret,Shadow III and a Mnandi. You won't be disappointed.

I just bought my first Sebenza last week. It is a large regular with web sight graphic, hematite cabochon. I have hesitated to buy one, largely because of the price. Even now I feel guilty for splurging on such an expensive item. I am going to carry it for a while and see if it grows on me. I love the lock up, and lack of blade play. I dislike the intitial resistance to opening it. Sometimes it seems to really hang up and take a lot of effort to open. It was also not very sharp out of the box.

Yep.

Unfortunately both issues seem to need a sticky. I've emailed CRK about them and even spoke to them at blade last year. CRK should address these issues IMO but they haven't.

all my crks were shaving sharp out of the box. and i ended up with a fully decked out sebbie. you know its a shame that it will probably be years before i get a sebbie that i will actually carry.

Interesting.. and disappointing. This is the first I am hearing negatives about this knife, and have to say, it is taking away from the mystique that it had.

I got my small Classic "Lisa's Pick" about a week and a half ago. Great looking knife. Nice size and blade is shaving sharp. Opening is smooth and blade is tight. I didn't think the extra F&F justified the high price that these sell for. However, with the Unique Graphic and Inlay, I guess it could justify the cost. I put it in the drawer. Then before bedtime, I pulled it out and played with it, hhmmmmm, it is a nice knife. I get home from work the next day and I pull it out again and open/close it while I'm watching tv, it does feel good in my hand and is very smooth. It is growing on me. So what do I do? I search, find and buy a large Regular Sebenza (another Lisa's Pick). Wow! Beautiful knife. Smooth blade opening but not as easy as the small Classic, maybe due to the large size. Now, I try shaving the hair on my arm, didn't happen. I cut on the box it was shipped in and it cut ok but not shaving sharp like the small Classic. Was a little disappointed but I still like the knife, a lot!. I will put a few strokes on the blade with my Sharpmaker this weekend and it will be fine. On the way to work this morning I was thinking, now I need to get a small Regular and a large Classic (Unique Graphic of course). Then I thought, heck I might as well get rid of some of my other knives that I will probably not use. Hhmmmm, the new kids on the block are pushing the others out.

pkdmslf - - loved your review - I can tell youre a die hard skeptic who doesn't 'join the cult' just because he buys a particular product. I like to use my gear while hiking, camping, fishing, & hunting. Just bought my first CRK, - - a fixed blade. I never thought I'd Ever pay $255 for a freakin' knife. But this thing is absolutely amazing - definitely the knife I'd want to have with me if in an emergency situation out in the woods. - - - Now, I'm being drawn to the Sebenza. If you woulda asked me if I'd pay almost $500 for a folding knife a month ago, I woulda said "You gotta be nuts ! I can buy <fill in the blank> gear for that kinda money. My Brand X knife cuts fine." Please let us know what you think of your new Sebenza after you've had a chance to hit it with the Sharpmaker. There are still a few of us sitting on the fence about paying the big bucks ! Best regards, - -

Stare at my moving pocket watch. You need a large Classic Sebenza......... Hehehehehehehe :D

I'm hardly a Sebenza cultist, but I do own a large Classic. I've owned it for about 6 years or so. It is the only folder in my collection that can never be replaced or traded away. The knife is just so extraordinarily close to my perfect ideal of the EDC folding pocket knife. It is also unbelievably reliable. That knife and I have been through quite a bit together.

I've owned many, many knives over the last 6 years. All of them have moved in and out of my daily carry rotation, except the Sebbie. The Sebbie is always there. I'll tell you how much I love my Sebenza by paying it the perfect compliment. I like it so much that I've never had the wish to purchase another one. I'm perfectly satisfied with the one I have.

The Sebenza is an unusually enduring design. Fads for certain edge thickness come and go. Super-steel fads come and go. Certain design element fads come and go. But the Classic Sebenza is always there, and always with the front of the pack. You can't say that about many knives.

Buzzbait - - I almost went into a hypnotic trance ! I think it was from your close-up of the Sebenza with those shiny screws flashing like a moving pocket watch ;) - - For other guys, like me, who have been sitting on the fence a little - I did notice that Sebbies listed over at the For Sale forum seem to get lots of replies and sell real fast if priced at all reasonably. - - Downside risk is looking smaller all the time. Regards, - -

So I'm sittin' here reading the 'benza' thread when low and behold the brown truck makes its way to the casa..... Guess what he had in his sweaty claws?

Being the skeptic, immediately had to check the sharpness..... excuse me now, gotta go shave the other arm. :D

I LOVE this knife!

Nice looking knife - - I've been thinking about bloodwood or micarata myself. I see from the other thread you'll have both. - - Enjoy !

bought 3 CRK's this week.

2 small, one large. ALL classics.

Thanks for the positive thoughts, good luck w/your search.

Took "my" new Large Regular Sebenza with Unique Graphic to the Sharpmaker fine stones last night. 30 strokes later and my left arm is now hairless. Wow, I took a high dollar knife to the stones after only a couple of days? I felt pretty confident I could sharpen it as I had sharpened quite a few of my collection about a month ago with great results. I just used the 40º slots and the fine stones on the Sharpmaker. It did take a few more strokes than I used on other knives but I attribute that to the S30V steel and blade grind. Really happy with it now! Now to find a small Regular and a large Classic. Will post pics of my first Sebbies in a couple of days.

pkdmslf - - enjoy your new knife ! Thanks for the report, - sounds like it didn't take too much time & effort to get 'er the way you like it. Best regards, - -

gotta shapemaker on the way..... gotta dull sebbie thats gonna need a little love. Wonder if I ought to use the medium or fine stones? Dont believe its been sharpened before, just used for quite some time...

I've fallen under the spell too....just got my Sable IV last week and have to remember to put it away when my wife and kids are home. It's a mighty hard knife to put down. I wish it was still hunting season so I'd have more of an excuse to put it throught it's paces. And it could shave straight from the box, the hair on my left arm is slowly growing back. Of course it'll just get shaved again. Now I'm thinking I might need a folder......

Not that I'm an expert or nothing like that but I would give it a shot with the white fine stones and see how it turns out. The gray stones are more aggressive and will remove more metal. Also I would suggest the 40º setting which is what CRK recommends. Good luck!
