I may have lost it but I have bought lots of knives over the years that I just will never have any use for or will ever use. I want to sell some of my Gerbers . Do you think I should sell these as one big Gerber package or seperatley? I was planning on puting these on eBay. These are all in mint condition as well. Do you guys think a package deal will attract more bidders?

I was even thinking about even placing a buy it now on them and of course they will be priced accordingly. I don't want to lose out on any cash.

I would love to sell it to you guys first! lol but that would mean becoming a Gold Member! lol

ebay is a crapshoot...
maybe you could get a friend who has a gold membership to sell it for you... would that be a violation of rules?

Thirty dollar investment...
If you're selling a lot of pieces, it's probably going to be cheaper than Ebay's cut if you go there...

And, you got it for the rest of the year.

Package deals or selling a collection intact depend. If having all the knives together truly does add value, if, for example, you have an example of every Gerber ever made, Then a package is a good plan. Part of the value is in having all of 'em. But, if what you have is just a hodge-podge, then they'll probably fetch more for you sold individually and sold slowly.

From my experience with ebay, you can probably make more money selling them individually. With a bulk deal, you're taking a chance on one bidder, as opposed to several. You may not make out that well on one, but you might make a killing on the next. You can also set your own shipping amount, which will make you a few pennies extra. Consider setting a minimum as well, to protect your investment.

I don't sell on ebay, but I buy (too much), so these are the things I have experienced. I would also setup a paypal or broker account, to protect yourself.

If you do not want to lose any of your investment in these knives then you may well do better on ebay than you will here. Bladeforum members are well educated as to the value of the knives they are interested in purchasing and unless the knives you are selling are in high demand and are hard to get, they will be looking for a deal. Sometimes people bidding on ebay get caught up in the excitement and you get more for your knives then they are worth. It is kind of a crap shoot though.

It might not be a good idea to package your knives into one auction. When seperate the knives will be affordable for more people. When you put all the Gerbers together the combined price will be out of the range of many possible bidders. You may also eliminate people that already have a Mk.I and want to add a Mk.II or vice versa. If someone wants one, two or even all three of the knives they can bid on them indivdually. If a person only wants one of the Gerbers then it is less likely they will bid on all three and then try to get rid of the other two.

By the way, I am not saying that I do not think you should buy a BladeForums Gold Membership. When you are a Gold member you can sell as many knives as you want for 12 months for only $30.00. You are also supporting the forum, so it is a win, win situation.

Gentlemen,

A few points.

First, yes, it would be a violation of terms to have somebody that has a gold membership selling knives for you on these forums.

Secondly, basic members may not discuss what knives they are selling, intend to sell or are thinking of selling here. That's the same as an ad and is verboten.

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

Now, Nicky has been provided some options and he has been emailed about the rules. This thread is being closed at this time.
