Ok, is this Mick Dodge guy for real?

I've only seen parts of his show and I must say- he's intriguing. I can appreciate his life style: off the grid, self reliant, respect for the forest, take what you need and leave the rest, the beard:D. But is he a fictional character or the real deal? I'm sure the show is edited and dramatized, hey it's TV after all, but I hope he's real, Mick seems pretty awesome.

I think he is for real but not sure what the TV show adds or subtracts from him but he does seem pretty straight forward off the grid kinda guy. I watched a couple of the shows and I like the stashes that he has all over the forest! I think that is pretty cool. I also like the clothes/skins he wears! :)

His stashes are pretty cool. However, it seems like he sets himself up for failure with his stashes. I saw an episode where he was in need of his bow. He went to retrieve it from his stash, only to find someone had stolen it. He then went through a huge ordeal of foraging and bartering to buy a new bow.

Yeah, I caught part of that one too but I imagine someone finds a stash of his every now and then! It is bound to happen when the season is nice and all the fudgies go hiking there! :) Still kinda cool though on how he barters to get another one. I also seen the one episode where he had to travel into town to get candles, gun powder etc. for his winter preps.

From what I have read, he is sort of for real. It is a reality show so a lot of it is staged. I like the show just for variety. I think it is worth watching just for the philosophy behind it. Again, from my reading, he does not live in the woods so much as take extensive vacations there.

I happened upon this show and saw the one where he was visiting his friends house.

They reminded me of a Seattle area Cheech & Chong. :D

I saw where there was a new show on last night and missed it. Did Mick survive the NW wood and did he get prepped for Winter OK? :D

I tried to get into watching the show, but when I saw him catch the crabs that were "alive", that was it for me. I couldn't handle anymore. I know it's a staged "reality show", but c'mon, those crabs were already dead and he was shaking them to make them look like they were trying to get away.

I can't watch any show that recaps the whole danged story every time they come back from a commercial break. That's a seriously cheap ass way to cheat on how much actual footage has to get produced for each episode. It's a very common tactic now and it makes me crazy.

YES!
Agreed.

I caught some of it, and was ok with it at first. Then came the episode where he put on a bunch of his bear fur winter clothes to scare off some campers by acting like Bigfoot. Seriously stupid move. If I, or some of my camping buddies, had some sketchy looking guy in bear fur messing with us there would be a good chance he'd be hurt.
