I got a customer that wants a knife with a leather wrap
any Ideas? or a proper way to do it?
I'm thinking of weave wrapping and then using thinned epoxy
to proof it. I haven't seen this in any treads here.
whatcha think? or what would you do?

Hi again Dan, long time no hear:)

I'd also consider anchoring it as well, perhaps with waxed thread under the weave, or just epoxy (unthinned). Just a thought.

Dan-

Here is one I did a while back. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

The main grip is covered with 4/5oz glued on vegtan. I skived the edges where they joined and contact cemented everything down tight. After the glue dried for 24 hours I dampened the leather and stamped a quilt pattern over the whole thing (embossed a couple of parallel lines along the seam and that hid it quite well). I then did the braidwork knots at both ends and in the middle. The knife grip was a tapered metal socket so I fitted a piece of moose antler as a buttcap.

Here's a riding crop handle that might spark something also.

PS These were both sealed with watco danish oil after dying. I've used the riding crop for years and you can see how well it's held up

Thanks Guys
