My latest creation :D
Cane toad inlay. I don't own a sheath with inlay and as far as I recall I've never helod one for longer than 30 seconds.
Didn't research how to do it, just went with my gut...
Please let me know what you guys think, especially interested with critical observations so I can make improvements in the future. Thanks

dude. that's fantastic work! The stitches look evenly spaced, very clean and straight. I like the contrast of the inlay versus the smooth 'frame' of the sheath.

If I were to make that for myself, I think the only thing I might do differently would be to make the top/moulded mouth of the sheath the same material as the inlay...but that's me and my personal taste. That sheath looks awesome just as it is.

Well, "Mate" I can't offer any criticism……only praise. The fact that the molded part of the sheath is also a very stylish new concept, is great. At least nothing I've seen before. Stitching is meticulous, and the edges are superbly finished. Inlay is padded and raised. I'd buy your work!!!…..and that's the best compliment I could give.

Paul

Edited to add. For right hand carry the snap direction (retention strap) should go the other way. Tail to the rear always.

Thanks Paul, means a lot coming from you!

Lucky that the strap can be easily reversed. :D

I think it is beautiful!

Very nice - wish I had one!

best

Very nice work there Elof! I like! The NMSFNO looks pretty sweet as well. :D

As everyone has already said, well done.

really impressive, i really like the colour and leather combination a lot.
one question, how do you guys make sure that the layers stay together at the mouth of the sheath? trust in your contact cement? because that is something i am struggeling with as well. i'm currently doing a wrap around stitch most of the time, but this just doesn't look good. but i am planning on getting a new contact cement anyways )kövulfix)

back on topic did you dye the toad yourself as well?

By layers you mean the back, welt and front of the sheath? Contact cement and stitching as close to top as possible for me.

Nope, I got the toad already dyed, have black and grey as well, but they had many more colors.

yeah, that's what I meant, thanks!
i have to admit, the more i look at it that toad leather looks better and better...
so we've had toad, shark, ostrich, snake, croc, what are we missing? i'm curious about some fish leather :D

I would have mede it without the dangler bit.
But apart from that the leather and work looks world class.

Very nice !!
I too am not very fond of "The Dangler Bit"... also instead of just the holes for the leg tie I would have liked to see a couple nice bronze eyelets. As the quality shows in this piece show and looks like its going to last 50+years...it looks to me that the two holes would be eventually wear through.

everything looks top notch : )

He could still add the brass grommets if he wanted.

Very classy, top notch work. I've yet to work with any exotic leathers but after seeing the toad I might start looking to change that.
Nicely done.
Chris

To be honest, I don't have any decent eyelets. Normally I do that piece at least 2 layers thick and have problem finding longer eyelets locally. Next time I might pick up some standard ones for those times when only one layer needs them.
