There are many among you who have more than five khukuris, or maybe 20 (if you are ever so lucky).

Surely, there is THAT one favourite among the whole lot.

Tell us why. Sometimes, words are not adequate to describe the feeling. Maybe there's a story behind it that's too personal to be aired in public. If that is the case, I understand.

For me, my favourite is this WWII which I bought some months ago.

It feels like an extension of my arm. It looks great and seems to have a personality of its own. Kudos to the maker, of course.

Sometimes, a work of art is a work of art. There are no two ways about it.

Man, that's a tough one. Forgive me for stretching your parameters.

The YCS for it's rugged beauty, balance and it's connection to a valued friend.

The Silver Mounted Gelbu Special for artistry from handle to tip.

The JKM-1 and JKM-2 for its connection to a departed brother.

(That's the best I can do until my Dui Chirra Chitlangi shows up, hopefully later today. ;))

My collection is small compared to many here, but it is growing. So far the one I always go to or back to is my BAS by Kumar. I sort of got this as an after thought at the time. It was all I could afford then, I was going to get a WWII but I did not want to wait to save up the extra cash. Kumar is gone now, and this is my only Kumar knife, maybe that is part of it. But I like the way it feels and handles too. It is funny, I thought that being a big guy I would really like my 19" AK the best, but I find the BAS in use more often.

I am a big guy and I find myself using and liking my BAS more than my other Khuks, too. It's just a handy size and it works like a Khukuri should. My 18in Durba Sirupati is also a nice size. I think I like the lighter khuks because they are easy to carry and keep close at hand. I've only been collecting khuks since May of this year but I already have a nice assortment of weights and sizes:

1st HI=BGRS by KWNN 17.5in 2.4lb
Nepalese Army villager 15in 14ounces
Bhudhini villader 19in 2.0lb
HI BAS by Durba 15in 1.3lb
HI AK by KWNN 20in 2.25lb
Sirupati by Durba 18in 1.5lb

weights are approximate

I hope to acquire an HI M43 and an HI Dui Chirra Chitlangi next.

In the collector series I have to say my first YCS and Kothimoda come in on an equal footing with the Hanuman Special with the WW II blade following close behind.:D

I have had to seperate my favorites by size and weight.
I have 3 favorites in the middle size length group and if I had to say which one I favor over another, just can't do it.
I think the biggest thing is it depends on the job you want to do, so in no particular order..... YCS, Chitlangi, and BGRS.

The 18" AK is in a class by itself and is the one for serious work in its weight class.

The heavy ones such as the GRS and Super Salyan I can say. The GRS wins hands down. :)
Not as good a splitter as the SS, but a much better all around heavier khukuri.

The really big ones like the 22" AK and the Janawar Katne I don't have so can't say.
And probably won't ever get anything that size, just too dayumed big for me!!!!

If a person could only choose just one khukuri then that person could say they have a favorite.:p :D

I have about 20 khukuris under the bed.

Favorite is our logo khukuri due to sentimental reasons

Second is the UBE given to me by Sanu and the BirGorkha kamis

Third is 140 or 150 year old ivory handled with 9 small ivory handled tools.

All the rest are valued pieces for some reason or other.

I have around 20 now but I gave a few away to some less fortunate drooling friends!;) I still love my AK's and if I could only use one it would be my 15 inch silver mounted/carved handle, beautiful and still very strong! I also Love my BGR, oh heck I love em all. If I could I would wear them all on my belt but that would tear my pants down!!!;)

I've managed nine (so far), and used three to infect sons and grandson..heheheh. My carved, silver mounted UBE is the best blade of the lot, aesthetically and quality-wise (one of Sanu's best, I'd wager) but in the hand, the Gelbu Spec. (Bura) and the Malla (KNN) still fit like they were given to me at age 5, or so. The "naturals" make themselves known immediately.

I've got 8 currently. I like them all, but in truth, the one I'm most likely to reach for when it comes time to go out and chop something is a 15" villagern that looks much like the one in my BFC avatar pic. I've got a feeling that eventually this "honor" may be taken over by the 15" AK by Kesar that I got as a UBDOTD after somebody botched sharpening it and then returned it to Uncle Bill. These two just seem to fit my hand the best for overall use. Still, I do like them all and they all excell in different situations.

That is a rather unfair question. Its like asking a parent which child is prefered. If I could only have one it would be my 17.5" WWII. It is durable, decent chopper, and splitter. I would much prefer a GRS and Ang Khola combination (the 22" ones of course).

Sixty-five, with none in the mail for a change, but maybe one or two lined up if everything goes well.
From HI: my 18" Shop 1 Sirupati with fullered blade and bolstered/buttcapped k and c (Shop 1 didn't offer an 18" Sirupati - this was a one-off); the first kothimoda, hand-carrried back from Nepal by Uncle Bill; a Bura custom ("the fleur-de-lys") with walnut and oosic handle and scabbard by Terry Sisco; and my YCS. Choose just one? Sorry, no can do :).
And my all-time favorite, a 21 3/4"`dui chirra from long ago, that is my idea of the ideal khukuri.

Berkley: I am new at this game. I was wondering what a "fullered" blade is. That sure is a beautiful Sipupati. Thanks.

Ad, don't want to steal any of our friend Berk's thunder but look at Berk's pictures again. You see the "grooves" (hollowed areas) on the flat sides of some of the blades? Those are "fullered" blades. Shaves weight yet retains strength and looks pretty terrific too.

Some of the others here may give you more information on fullered khukuris. You can find fullers on standard knives like Kabars, Marbles and others as well.

Thanks, Blues. Do any of the standard HI khuks come that way, or is it a special order item?

Ad, several khukuris feature fullers. The Ang Khola. The Gelbu Special. The YCS. The Dui Chirra Chitlangi amongst others.

Dui Chirras have two fullers. Tin Chirras feature three fullers.

Take a look at the pictures on Uncle Bill's website as well as the FAQ maintained by our own Howard Wallace to get ideas of the variety of styles our beloved khukuris are available in.

(The sites are linked below Uncle Bill's sig as well as Rusty's, Howard's and a few others.)
