Has anyone ever removed the res-c handle from their Scrapper knife (I have an S-5) and found a way to wrap the handle with para-cord, striker style? I love the handle, but it sticks to clothes, makes your shirt ride up, etc. Thanks for any advice!
 
Good question, but before you try to remove the grips hang around until someone can post a picture of the tang that is under the grip.
I think it might to too narrow to build up with paracord and acheive what you're after.

Pictures of the M-Infi models and SRKW knife tangs have been shown and from what I can remember it seems like a bad idea.
 
there's a cutaway photo on the SYKC website; there's enough handle under there to use as a grip in an emergency, but not enough to do a cordwrap on. unless, you know, you have tiny carny hands.

Someone, mebbe Hog Feet? ...posted an x-ray image of some Bussekin knives a long time ago, which showed the tang underneath. I'll try to dig it up and repost it here.
 
Ban took a Basic 7 and drilled out the eyelet IIRC and then pulled the handle off ... he did a post on it .... I think it may have been on the SY Forum ... nicest Basic I have seen though ... beautiful finish ....

But he re-attached the handle .... personally I think the handle is one of the best features on the S5LE .... if it is a problem for concealed use try and pick up a RMD when Eric releases some soon at factory prices .... similar knife with a none stick grip ....

well,thats the basic idea of what folks are saying
about the tang.
 
The Busse/SRKW/SYCO Resiprene handled knife tangs go all the way to the rear handle tube.
The tube actually T's the rubber through the tang.

I like the idea of a leather washer handle. Sort of Estwing like:thumbup:
 
Thanks din, I've seen that picture at the SY website, and its a good picture. I think is from the S6, should be about the same. Problem is, I really do like the handle, I just wondered if someone has already tried this, and whether it worked out or not (we always learn the most from failure, even someone else's, right?). Thanks, PeterPHWS, I may do just that... Thanks everyone!
 
give it a shot! if it doesn't work out you can always try the stacked leather thing, or who knows? :thumbup: and you can always pick up an RMD too. whatever you decide, just make sure to post pictures.
