maybe a stupid question , but i have about 10 of those wipes KFC gives you to clean your hands sitting around , should i throw them into my survival kit or bug out bag when i can finally afford to build one? i know this sounds very amatuer , but i do have them sitting around , and see no point in wasting them.

Seems like a good idea. If not necessary for actual "survival," they sure could make your outing a lot more pleasant.

I have a small pack of unscented baby wipes in my camping gear that regualrly come in handy.

Can't hurt, but from my experience they dry out after a year or two so don't count on them. I buy antiseptic pads in little packs like that, and they seem to stay wet much longer.

Before you put them in your kit( or anything for that mater) "play" with them a bit.
will they catch a spark?
How long do they burn?
Do they make a serviceable bandage?
What else are they good for?

This is exactly my experience. The cheap paper foil wrapping doesn't hold up well, but you might be able to mitigate that a bit by keeping them wrapped tightly in a small plastic baggie to prevent too much moisture loss.

We have a local barbecue place around here that has them in a thicker foil that keeps for years. I don't want to be a jerk, but I tend to grab a fist full every time we leave from the bowl on each table. They're free, but I wouldn't want to cross the line. Anyway, they're great, so it you see anything like this, that's what I do.

An excellent suggestion, and one I didn't think of. LG&M has the mind of a clever survivalist. I need to think more like this.

Get the $1.99 packs of baby wipes for travel. Good for the occasional bird bath or to take the stink off your hang low. They're in my kit and they help you feel mre human and less savage.

If I was to dress some small game, I'd like to wash the blood on my hands right after.

Where wouldn't you have a use for wet wipes?
I have them in my bag that I carry into work, and in my truck, first aid kits, the drybag on my kayak, gym bag, my pack when I camp, etc.
Whore baths in the woods, emergency toilet paper, cleaning cuts and bites, using public bathrooms, gas pumps...I guess you could wash your hands with them, too! Especially good when you're with messy kids, and for elderly people whose lives revolve around bathroom stops.
I have these kinds:

The Walgreens box of 48 is about $2.50, and the 10 packs of thicker Charmin wipes are $0.99 in the travel(travel hygiene?) section at Wal-Mart. These flat single and 10ct. packages are a lot easier to pack than the canisters where you pull them out the top.

If you are out with your girlfriend and you can produce a wipe when she needs one she will be impressed. Even if it is in a restaurant or theatre or something.

They kick azz for cleaning your hands after prepping an animal.
Think about it.
KFC is about the nastiest crap you could ever put your paws on.
Those are the "cure"

+1 And she'll love you even more if you pull them out in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds like a good idea to me, and pretty resourceful. Even if they don't work so great, you're not out anything at least.

I also carry some wipes in my hiking and hunting packs. However, if you are hunting, buy some cheap latex surgical gloves or dishwashing gloves. They will make it MUCH easier to clean your hands after field dressing game. Furthermore, they offer some minimal protection against scraping your hand and getting wild animal blood/fluids/matter in the cut.

I have wipes in all my hiking and hunting packs, also. Leaves are okay, but it's a lot nicer walkin without bein all itchy and smelly.... down under.

The only good thing about itchy and smelly is that it gives a good excuse to scratch yourself. Never pass up the opportunity!

I never go anywhere with out wet wipes, I am far from a germaphobe however I like to keep my hands clean when I eat. Chris

Wet wipes are great in temperate weather, but where I live ( -20c, -12F right now) they freeze and are USELESS. In cold weather I carry a roll of TP in a plastic tabacco can. In summer I carry both.
