I am gonna either buy a Strider AR/GB, or an XM-18 from Rick Hinderer knives.

http://www.rickhindererknives.com/

Both seem hardcase and rough and ready. I would love it if folks that have experience with either or both would chime in.

Price seems comparable. Striders are CPM S30V and dont know about the other yet.

About the same size. Even look somewaht alike.

Which way would you go?

Thanks in Advance!

I would definitely choose the XM-18. As tough or tougher as a Strider, with the fit and finish of a Sebenza. No competition in my opinion. Plus it is a handmade custom that you're getting.

Thank you. I guess I could add a GunHammer to the mix also. I really liked what I saw of the xm-18 but couldnt judge it's size or know the blade steel. The Striders are using CPM-S30V now and great as it is it is not my favorite steel for a blade. It is a pain to sharpen for me and my sharpmaker!

Strider's are sweet knives..

BUT

If I had the $$$ I would go with the Hinderer...Those knives are something else!!

Pulled from Hinderer's website on the XM-18:
"Oh and the blades are s30v standard and .165 thick"

I would almost sell my 2005 tanto sebbie for this un. cheaper than a strider too. Doesn't the SNG and SNF use the same lock bar stabilizer?

Both are great knives, but I think you will find the Ar/GB is big, very big. And at least for me too big for comfortable every day carry. The Hinderer on the other hand is a much better EDC size, and probably just as tough, although I have never broken either. That being said you will not go wrong with either knife.

Then I take it that if you could ONLY have one :D it would be the XM-18 ?

I assumed he had some in stock or partial mades for not too far off delivery? Maybe I should call him on Monday to find out!

I dont own either but have handled a couple of Striders and thought they were OK but I was not impressed. After seeing some of Hinderers knives their is no doubt I would go with the XM-18. Also may I add that I also now hate you for introducing me to those beautiful knives....I think my wallet will take a hit around christmas time now :p

I was told by Rick that the wait is 5 or 6 months so you're wallet won't take a hit for a while. That's if you order today.

i had a xm18 and sold it so rick could make me a 3" xm18-
i should be seeing it any week now-ti anno like the one in my avatar

the price of a 3" xm is about the same as a small sebenza-more than worth the wait imho
