...is complete, or, at least, the first pass is.

Thanks again to Pen and everyone else for all the help, comments, ideas, &c.

cheers,

Ben,

You have now learned that there is never a "minor" redesign of a web page :) . ... kind of like eating patato chips. ... can't just fix one thing. I think the last time I did a "minor redesign" to my site,it took over six months (and a lot of manhours).

Sorry I couldn't offer up any helpful comments. ... I've been too busy and too confused to make any real analytical comments about anything.

regards,

Alan

Looks good to me, Beo, surely an improvement. I am also very happy the main page is himalayan-imports.com...

Ben I just visited the H.I.Website and there were several pix at the bottom of the 2nd page that didn't load for me. I right clicked and clicked "show picture" and they would come up then. I don't know enough to know if there's a few too many pix on the 2nd page or if it was just my browser. Running I.E.6.0 and so far it's been really decent for me. I didn't check the rest of the pages or links though as the pix were loading pretty slow, was that because of the amount of pix on the page or perhaps my computer?

Other than that congrats on a much improved website!!!! I really like seeing the pix of the goat that was sacrificed as it was done in as good taste as something like that is possible to most people, I would have liked to have been there so there wouldn't have been any goat meat left over.;)

I've been lurking your update threads, with nothing to say, out of pure ignorance- However, now that you're done, I can surf the entire site without experiencing slow loading or pics that won't load. Everything is centered and well presented. All this on a WebTV, which means you MUST have covered everything :D

Being an ex-WebTV user myself I can say that if Walosi's happy you did cover everything.
But now I'm really wondering why all the pix on the 2nd page didn't load for me!!??!!??!!
But then I had two programs load on my computer, backwebs and gearbox, somehow that I didn't know were there and figured it must be from the updates to my HP. I'm really confused and no nothing about these dayumed infernal contraptions!!!!

What's kinda funny in a strange way is that when I was experienceing the problem I was thinking that, "Geez!!!! If this is doing this to me I bet Walosi won't be able to load all of this and will get kicked off his phone link."

The ol' WebTVs can still hack it :) Normally, on a "long" page like those on the FAQ, I can sit at the top of the page for a second or two, and then begin to scroll down (just a little faster than comfortable reading speed) and catch up with pics still loading. Ben's new pages load faster than the forum pages or the FAQ - When I immediately begin to scroll, the entire page has loaded, no lost pics or text. "Next Page" is nearly immediate, and back button response is also quick. Very quick, very clean, and obviouly very well done. Thanks, Ben.

Yvsa - I'm not sure why the 2nd page isn't loading for you - it probably has the least no. of pix on it ... have you tried emptying your cache?

I don't know what backwebs & gearbox are - I don't think they're anything you need, but I could be wrong - maybe someone else knows...

You can get the pix to load if you right click and click 'display picture', right, isn't that what you said? I've had that happen to me periodically on various sites (even major ones like amazon.com), I think it's the 'pipes getting clogged', at least sometimes.

Has anyone else had any problems?

thanks again all,

:) - WebTV has a small screen doesn't it Wal? Does eveything fit fairly well on WebTV? If it works on WebTV...it should work pretty well on most browsers, resolutions, &c.

....and WebTVs aren't available over there :) WebTV uses the television for a screen - mine is an 18" Quasar - and it has whatever screen adjustments are built into the set, plus some centering, alignment and sharpness adjustments betwee the browser and the TV set. Once these are balanced, the rig is at the mercy of the servers - you must go off-line to make any adjustments, and that is too much bother for any one site. I've had good viewing with 99% of the sites I've surfed, except those using any variation of cascade - too much java, as WTV only supports java 1.1. That's my total knowledge of the subject, and in this case, ignorance is bliss.

Ben I'm so embarrassed!!!!:o :o :o :o
It's my bad. I was evidently on the old website that had all the pix on page 2.
Just visited the new one at.......
http://khukuri.netfirms.com/
and everything is very speedy.:D

The WebTV has whatever sized screen your TV has as it uses it for the monitor. I had mine hooked up to our 29" screen for quite a while until I could get a smaller one with the correct hookups in the rear, and then set it up just like a real computer, actually most people thought I had gotten a new computer until I told them differently.

The WebTV is perfect for what people like Walosi and me mostly do, for surfing the web and for e-mail.
For some reason my unit seemed to be breaking the forum every time I made a new post, though I could post to existing threads with no problem, at least Spark was convinced it was doing the breaking.
There's quite a few people on the forums with WebTV and no one has had any trouble with their units which makes me kinda wonder if indeed it was my unit.
I am more than pleased with the 'puter though as it can do much, much more than I could do before as well as having memory that I will probably never fill up.:)

Walosi - I'm actually in the USA right now, but I've never seen a WebTV - what I read, though, is that the resolution on them is less than 640x480 (which is small by today's standards), but it must just map 640x480 onto whatever size screen? Who knows - but everything fits well on your screen?

Yvsa - I'm sorry I wasn't clear about reposting the link...actually (though khukuri.netfirms.com works and actually goes to the same place) we have our own domain name now, so tune your browsers to http://www.himalayan-imports.com :)

Glad everything is working well (so far). Pendentive deserves a great share of the credit for the new design (as does everyone who so helpfully offered advice, suggestions, moral support, &c. :) )

That's odd - I wouldn't think that could happen.... Unless your unit was sending out some really nasty code or something...

Everything fits well, and is crystal clear. I had to jump off and check a WTV tech site, which shows a "window size" of H460 X W580 pixels, so something is happening right between the browser and the set. They will be obsolete some day, and I'll get off the web and go back to books.

Bro if you do that I hope it's because we've both become too old to type.
And should we live so long the price of phone calls should really be cheap by then, we will be able to afford it even being retired.:)
