I've never given Emerson knives a serious look. I've always thought the Wave was a bit corny and the knives weren't solid.

Holy crap was I wrong. I just got a CQC-14 and I must say this will not be my last Emerson. The friggin' thing is a tank, man. I love it.

I'm still getting used to the wave but it works perfect for quick deployment. I had the opportunity to carry during an extended stay in the hospital and it carries much smaller than it is. I'm getting used to pulling it out of my pocket without opening it. I've just got to train myslef to angle it right so the blade doesn't come out when I don't want it to.

I am in love with the design of this knife. I really love having a large/full handle and a short blade.

Sweet knife - I'm sorry for doubting you Mr. Emerson. Solid knives!

I glad to hear you woke up... "Corny", is hardly the word I would use to describe the Emerson Wave Feature, "Most effective SD knife deployment option.PERIOD!" is how I would describe it..

Congrats on the new blade! I just got an A100 with the new stonewash finish today. It is sooooo sweet:D

Aint that the way, a fella gets an idea in his head, that he wont like something then wham! He likes it. I still don't like spinach though :p

I just read a thread that the wave also works as a bottle opener? I haven't tried it yet, but if that's true I think I may be in love

I can't put this knife down - I'm not much into using it for SD, but I love the fact that I can open the knife quickly and with little effort. I'm going to drag the knife along with me next time I'm out and about in the woods and see how it holds up. I'm sure it'll do everything I ask it to :)

too bad their liner locks SUCK!!
that again, from my own, yet rich personal experience.

I have always found EKI liner locks to be just fine. I'm not even a huge fan
of the liner lock but Emersons LL have never given me any cause for concern.

Since the vast majority of EKI knives are a locking liner design, do the all "SUCK?" I'm just curious, because if I had a bad experience I would detail it a little better, rather than just making a declaration, and alluding to a negative experience.

I'm not a Emerson "fanboy", I own knives from many manufacturers. Of the five EKI knives I do own, only one has shown any issue. That would be my combat karambit, that I used to practice the wave opening. (It probably saw 50-100 hard openings for a few months straight) Even so it has only developed a slight amount of bladeplay, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Any of my EDC knives from pretty much any company would show wear if I treated them the same way.

Now if you were using your Emerson to open the mail, and the liner lock failed and lopped off a finger, I'm sorry..but you should explain where you are coming from.

I had a few bad ones back in 01-02. A mach 1 and 3 Commanders. They seem to have fixed things. The thicker liners of current Emersons are ok. The only one that I have that is funky is my Super Raven B. It is not a problem to me because it will get a Reese Weiland makeover eventually. I own 5-6 Emersons. I becoming a fanboy and it's easy to see why.

My Emersons:

BTTT, the wave is amazing! All my carry knives (Emerson or otherwise) are waved. Look at how many waved knives are in my collection... kinda old pic.

yeah thats why i like emersons so much, i enjoy having the locks fail and really like it when i cut myself due to that happening lol.

while EKI had a few issues with the locks back in '00 or '01 they have long since solved that problem, unless ya wave the thing a lot or inertia open it a lot ya rarely hear of probs nowadays, and i dont know how widespread it ever was, my bud has a '99 commander which is his work knife (he's a framing subcontractor) and its been waved or inertia'd probably every single time its ever been opened (since '99 mind ya) and it still locks up fine,

liner locks will wear with use though, and thats just a thing about liner locks ya gotta learn to live with or go to frame locks or something, and it matters not one iota who made the lock, be it spyderco, BM, MT, kershaw, whoever, even EKI.
