OK, on the Sheath:: I am convinced now

My problem, I was being too fancy with it.

I just came back from a very active ( and well earned ) vacation...non technical mountain climbing, hiking in the hills and some fast boating. O.K., O.K., there was picnicing too. My BA3 rode comfortably at my side, ready at a moment's notice and away at a moment's notice.

All I did, and I forget who suggested it, was tighten the 550 cord by re-knotting it at the back with a slip 1/2 hitch, then bringing the snap part over the finger guard/talon hole. It now works just like any other retaining system you are used to. The knife is very secure using this method...it doesn't budge even when tugged.

One benefit to the 550 cord compared to a strap or webbing is that when you replace the knife, there is enough "give" to the 550 cord that the blade sort of pushes it out of the way without cutting into it. After multiple resheathings, the cord is unscathed. I used the slip 1/2 hitch because it is easy to restore the length of the cord if I want to use the wrap method.

IMHO, for hiking, around camp or even on the water, you just don't need to "single" wrap it or "double wrap" it unless you are upside down or something.

I feel like such a doofus not seeing the light before. BRAVO JERRY, I couldn't be happier with this rig...unless it came with a pouch.:)

Well there you go Jerry, a very satisfied sheath coustomer, and a distinguished one at that.

Your honor, I am glad you enjoyed your vacation.

Geoff,

Oh sure. . . . now you like it! LOL ;)

Actually, I'm glad you've found it to be to your liking. We are working on incorporating a more traditional style strap for those who don't care for this design. That way the sheath would have both styles.

I'm a doofus.

One of my new Busses came with the new sheath. Like a fool, I unsnapped the tag/cord without studying it carefully first. Now I can't seem to figure out how to single or double-wrap it to get a tight fit, though I could swear it was tight when I first unsnapped/unwrapped it.

This can't be rocket science, but, um, any of you have any pictures of how it's supposed to work?

I thought of just re-knotting the cord, but that seemed like cheating.

Bae,

It's simple to double wrap:
Start by wrapping around the choile side first- the cord starts between the knife handle and sheath, comes over the top of the handle, between the handle and sheath again. Over the top a second time and again between the handle and sheath. Now gently tug the snap down an on. Ta-daaa! Do the loop-d-loop and pull, and your Busse is looking cool!

Geoff,

At first I thought the new strap system was dumb and that Mr. Busse must have came up with this one after a dozen 6-packs of CBL. But after playing with it and using my over-active imagination, I thought of several ways to use it. Now I like it!

I'm glad you found something that worked for you! That's the beauty of the design, IMHO. It's just so customizable :)
