From the 2-21-08 Deal of the Day thread... what exactly is it? I know different Khukuris have different uses, but I don't see a Tin Chirra listed in any of the products on the HI website. What can you tell me about it? Oh yeah, ordered the Bilton as well... and the WWII. Think I'm addicted? Three Khukuris bought and paid for and none received yet. :D

Cool... so this would make a great gardening/landscaping tool... cut through brush and overgrowth, saplings... a good tool for camping?

I have a nearly identical piece by Vim. The fullers are very nicely done. It feels great in hand. I think I may have to get another since I am loth to sully the beautiful fullers.

I think considering the blade's shape and width, it would be a power-chopper much like an Ang Khola. I wouldn't expect it to be as agile & graceful as a Sirupati or Chitlangi, but khukri's can surprise you. Each individual one is different, having it's own unique feel and even personality.

The Tin Chirra's are beautiful khukri's though. I love fullers.

Hiram just how good a chopper a Tin Chiarra or any other kukri may be depends a lot on its weight as well as its edge profile. Any kukri that comes in around 28 ounces with a proper edge profile is an excellent chopper no matter which model it is.
I have a Tin Chiarra from another manufacturer that in spite of coming in at a lighter weight chops like a heavier kukri because of its edge profile. Almost any lighter kukri with a thinner and more acute edge will chop like a heavier kukri however I wouldn't subject it too trying to cut down an 8 inch oak. ;) :o
On the other hand a heavy kukri with a thicker and more obtuse edge while still a formidable chopper won't chop any better than the lighter kukri with the thinner and more acute edge.
My HI Baby Ganga Ram Special is an example of an excellent kukri.
The main trick is getting a proper edge length/height thickness with a good edge profile to suit the kukri itself.
If you put too thin an edge on a heavier kukri it's not going to last as long as a thicker edge so it's simply a matter of hitting a happy medium.
Once you've had a kukri for a while it will pretty much tell you what edge thickness and profile is best suited for it.;)
I've subjected my HI BGRS to what would be considered abuse by a lessor blade and it has never failed me. Along with my 21"+ HI Chitlangi it is one of my favorites and always will be.
However my all time favorites so far is my HI Foxy Folly's! If I could have only one, a helluva choice :(, it would be my 17" Foxy Folly.  :D

OK you are all making me very antsy to get my blades! The WWII shipped Friday priority mail, could be here as early as tomorrow... I'm guessing Tuesday is more likely. If payment reached Yangdu in time on Saturday, the Tin Chirra and Bilton might have shipped, I'm thinking I got to him too late (spent the day at my friend's gun shop helping him test some firearms they were repairing for a law enforcement agency). So those will probably ship tomorrow and arrive on Wednesday or Thursday.
