Ok, so there's no "mini-Military"- what then?

The "6" Military" thread got me thinking.

I recently obtained a Starmate, my first experience with the linerless, leaf-lock set up. I like it alot, and of course now I'd like a Military to keep the Terzuola company. However, the last few days I've been carrying the Starmate to work, and it's just too big for the office. I can't really clip it to my Dockers or even my jeans on "casual" Fridays as the shiny clip says "hey, look at me". As much as I try to shrug off the sheeple, it's just not appropriate at my office. Bummer, huh? So, I'm not sure about the size of the Military now, either.

I can get away with my Goddard Jr. riding down in my pocket, but it's nice to have some more options. I try to put each one of my knives into the M-F rotation, and it would be great if there were a Military/Starmate type knife(meaning linerless G-10, leaf lock) available in a 3" or smaller blade. Is there? Am I missing something? Other than the lockbacks?

I've thought about the Rookie in G-10, or the Wegner Jr. Any other suggestions? Thanks all-

For what your wanting, I think the Wegner jr. would do nicely. If your not opposed to a lockback, the Calypso jr. would be hard to beat.

Good choices: Wegner Jr., G-10 Rookie, or Calypso Jr. An older Terzuola might do it for you too.

The word on the street is that a Military Jr. prototype will be coming out in the future.

I'm not sure if this is good or bad. A linerless G-10 knife with a 3" flat ground blade with a belly would be cool, but I don't know about the Military. I wouldn't want to see the handle ergonomics messed up, as I believe that the handle design is just genius. Anyhow, it will be interesting to see.

Maybe a linerless G-10 Calypso Jr. would fill this void? I have a feeling the two knives would look very similar.

How about a Native? There is the Native pride in 440-V that is about to be released. And the Native II in AUS-10 is also a good choice.

Check out the Standard in G-10. The blade is 2 7/8" and the handle is comfortable and solid. My Calypso Jr. in micarta blends well when I'm bouncing between the shop floor and the office areas at my job. You already mentioned the Wegner Jr. which is a very nice knife. Heck, buy all three and save yourself the trouble of deciding.

Take a look at the smaller Centofante. It has a G-10 handle with single nested liner, like the Military and Starmate. I don't own one yet, but I've been tempted.

Hey clip point, I don't know if they are available for the Starmate but I bought a black clip for my Military from the Spyderco company store (whatever it's name is). It was about five bucks, self installed, and never looked back. The black clip is a shiney black, matte black would have been better, but doesn't look so obvious in jeans and even Docker's. It looks more like an attachment for a piece of electronic hardwear than a knife. Nobody has asked what it was in the three months I've had it.
