OK , so this is global warming ?

It has been a bit warm now that you mention it...
I think in the end we had 5 days of 40degrees (celsius) plus.
I had it easy though - I work in an airconditioned office. We have had something like 2000 volunteer firefighters out for days, including during the worst of the heat.

I have spent time in the center where the chill of the predawn was 38C , 9 am it was around mid 40s C , after 10 am my thermometer was maxed at 50 .. I have no idea what the midday temp was apart from hotter than I want to live in again

I did spend a couple years on the communities around Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberlies , doing the tribal thing :)

Sad part is , where I am now , way south in sposed to be temperate zone , its jst like when I was up there . None the old timers recall it being this dry and hot for this many years running .

It was about 60 degrees here today. That's not record-breaking, but definitely warmer than normal.
I love the recent warm weather, went hiking today and even took out the convertible one day this week, but the ranchers are hoping for more winter weather because they're dependent on runoff from the mountain snowpack.

A completely dry winter isn't abnormal for us, but we can have issues if the regularly scheduled spring snows don't occur. Fortunately for our locality we had some late season rainstorms that topped off our water supply lake. Other areas in the region didn't have those rains and will be in rough shape without snow runoff.

It's complicated.

Down under, the annual seasons, January through Decenber, are Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring.

Australians shiver through coldest winter morning in 30 years
Sydney was blanketed in frost on Wednesday as the city shivered through the coldest June morning in nearly 30 years, with temperatures at just 4C (39F).

The weather bureau says an extreme cold front has broken a series of low temperature records for Canberra, Goulburn and the Snowy Mountains.

The southern tablelands and Victoria's Alpine region have also been hit by the summer chill.

A rapidly moving cold front from Antarctica moved though Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT yesterday.

The icy and changeable weather delivered a low of -4 degrees Celsius and a dusting of snow to the Snowy Mountains.

Forecaster Sean Carson says the snow is unseasonable, but not rare.

"In fact, it was only three to four years ago they had a 20cm centimetre fall in January," he said.

Tasmania freezes: Social media reacts to record low temperatures

As Tasmania endures its coldest day since records began, people took to social media to share their experiences with the icy conditions.

2 weeks back had 2 days over 48c in the shade, with thermo reaching over 65 in the sun and it was only 11am.
Thats 118.4f and 149f for you Americans

Feel bad for the bastards fighting the fires in 40-45c+ heat.

had this bearing down on us during the 2011 lake clifton fires, it never jumped the highway in our direction and saved our butt.

I dont remember stuff being this bad when I was a kid... had to put out a fire front on our farm with nothing but green tree branches and beating when I was just 7.. trucks couldnt get in to help.. had maybe 50 people show up from around the community to help then had a big old bbq and pissup afterwards. Summers seem hotter and winters drier... swamps on our property that I would play in for months at a time as a kid catching frogs and tadpoles and just having a merry old time with water waist high, now only have ankle deep water for a week or 2 every winter, and they are protected wetlands... with Paperbark trees that are hundreds of years old that are now dieing.. so it doesnt seem to be normal in time frame longer then a mans life. 3 months of the year everything would come alive and green.. now its like a month at best.. then its back to sand and heat.

Are we effecting the weather? thats up in the air(pun intended) what we do know for a fact is that we are poisoning waterways across the globe and destroying habitat and causing extinction of entire ecosystems. Either way we need to show greater respect and put more effort in cleaning up our wasteful ways.. or the planet is going to die one way or another.

Global warming is not just about warming. Sure the average has gone up a degree or two, and will continue to rise in the future, but the danger lies in the extremes. There are more cold snaps and heat waves. More storms and droughts.

If people want to bury their heads to our climate changing that is OK. But the reefs will still die and the rice will still stop growing. (Both require a very specific temperature range to survive). Precipitation patterns will still change leaving flourishing population centers desolate wastelands in need to external water sources.

Pollution and dwindling natural resources is another problem. One that will come back to bite us in a big way.

Thanks for sharing Myal, makes me feel better about it being colder than your freezer outside. :D

Global warming is not just about warming.

So-called "global warming" has nothing to do with warming, because there is no warming. This entire global warming/cooling/change scam is 100% about leftists feeding their visceral, emotional compulsion to raise my taxes and steal my personal liberty. I have brilliantly demonstrated again and again and again that every leftist "crisis" is magically "solved" by raising my taxes and stealing my freedom. That's quite a coincidence, isn't it?

The "solution" to the supposed "health care crisis"? Raise my taxes and steal my freedom. Incandescent bulb crisis? Raise my costs and steal my freedom. Crackheads want Obama phones? The Global "warming" and "cooling" and "change" hoax? Raise my taxes and steal my freedom. Get the picture?

Leftism is a mental disorder that supplants one's reason with the vile, emotional compulsion to get revenge on one's perceived superiors by stealing their money and their freedom. The "global warming/cooling/change" hoax is just the symptom of this psychosis.

Path to enlightenment.

ahem ..

global climate change is real , its here , its happening now , globally ( globally means more than the USA , and the reaches of domestic USA laws , Obama , and stuff )

I hear every few days it seems some new heat record was broken here ( its summer , so yeah .. ) but it seems the hot is getting hotter
I have a good friend in Indiana , I keep up with the weather there too , and it seems that there is new cold records being set pretty regular , and now something that weather folk are saying they havent heard of in their lives .. polar vortex .. I guess its winter so yeah , its going to happen ... but it seems with the records being set .. the cold is getting colder .

On the in between times , change over season when its cyclone or hurricane or tornado season .. the storms are getting stormier , its not notable nowdays to hear the newscasters repeating over and over , biggest storm since ... record breaking winds / rain / hail / ice etc ..

I am no politician nor do I label people green, left, right, wingers or wangers .. I have no great education , but it seems to me that with so often we are seeing new records , the weather is getting more extreme , IOW the hots getting hotter , the cold colder etc ..

it means that global warming isnt quite so .. since some places are getting cold , and global cooling isnt quite so , since some places are getting hot .. global dimming sounds more like it .. but that seems to cover politics too and folk who follow politics IMHO .

Whatever it is , its here :)

False. Witnessing a change in one's lifetime, or even recorded changes over several people's is not indicative of anything. We don't have enough data about earth's past climate to draw a real conclusion about whether or not there's any kind of significant shift occurring now. Earth's climate has been changing since its beginning. It's not a big deal, people are just too egocentric to shut up about it. They need their lives to feel important and new, so they advertise their observations as being more significant than they have the data to conclusively determine.

Its a normal winter, not sure if the planet is warming or cooling, but if climate change is taking place I doubt there is anything humans can do about the forces of nature. The only thing for certain is that there will be those who will profit from it and make any kind of excuses to do so.

Regardless of the argument over the "truth or falsehood" of global climate change, (even though dendrochronolgy, fossil records and deep polar ice gas measurements tend to indicate this), why not try to take steps incontrolling pollution? Simple steps over the years in recycling, auto emissions, industrial waste management, etc. can only help improve everyone's lives. I wish the mentality of the mass consumer "gotta have the newest thing" throwaway mentality could slow down, but the faux-capitalist, media advertising vision of "success and happiness" in this world may leave us drowning in our own oceans of styrofoam packing peanuts. Buy fewer, better things; go plant a few trees in the spring.
