Hi, all (ahem, Spark!)

I know we're not supposed to post sales offerings on the exchange forums w/o a seller's account, but what about links to auctions? Can I post/advertise a link to a (personal) ebay auction for a knife?

I don't want to step on any toes.

Thanks!

Hi Jon,

You should not post links to your auctions.

I think you know why. :)

If there is a special auction that you think the members might be interested in; like balisongs or Emersons there's nothing wrong with that.

Thanks all -- just was checking.

Thought I saw some before, but I figure they were mistakes and it's verboten (for good reason.)

Nice to see Mr. Ewing (emerson forever!) will still reply to a FNG's SOQ.

one2gofst: Ahhh.... Hm. Thanks for the tip.

It's supposed to be forbidden.

You can't post a link saying, "this is my auction".

But apparently you can post a link saying, "here's somebody else's auction".

It doesn't make any sense  Go figure.
No auction links should mean just that, "NO" auction link.

I am not exactly sure what Rick was referring to. In the past I have seen threads locked and their contents erased when they are links to other peoples auctions. It is against BladeForum rules to advertise knives for sale in any way except in the proper forums and if you are a Gold member. You can also sell if you have paid for a Dealer or Knifemaker membership, again in the proper forums only.

Maybe a moderator can explain if it is OK under any circumstance to put up a link to an auction.

Edited to add this:

This type of auction should always be allowed.

Maybe the rule should be NO auction notices and then there would not be any questions?

There seems to be some confusion here.... We had a big discussion about it a couple of months ago and Spark decreed no links to auctions are allowed at all.

I was confused -- what I meant to say was posts advertising an auction are not encouraged even if they're posted by someone other than the seller. For instance, a post saying, "Hey look, this knife is going for half price" is considered advertising regardless of who posts it. Posts like the ones Rick used as examples above, giving a link to a knife in order to discuss that knife, are different. Sorry....

I agree Rick. Linking to an auction to get an idea of what people think the knife is worth is a good way to get opinions on what you should bid. I see nothing wrong with that at all.
