Hello fellow knife enthusiasts,

I am looking to add another nice folder to add to my small collection. There are allot of great companies that I am less familiar with so I am coming to you to see what you would get given my existing collection. I really do not NEED another knife so there is no hole to fill, I just want something nice to help round out the collection. I am going to list my existing folders below in no particular order. I am sure I am missing a few, but these are the ones I like and use the most. Thank you for any and all input.

Benchmade 720- This was my first quality EDC and I carried it for years. After a trip back to the factory to have it cleaned up I decided to retire it.

Benchmade 940- This was my replacement for the 720 and my current favorite. This has been my EDC for the last 5 or so years. After I thought I lost it I replaced it with a...

Benchmade 940BK- I found the 940 the same day this arrived so it sits in the safe unused.

Benchmade 710D2- When the 940 is not enough

Benchmade 610 Rukus- When the 710 is not enough, My outdoor Knife.

I have owned numerous Grips both large and small. These I usually end up giving away to newbies. They usually end up hooked on Benchmade.

Non Benchmade knives-

Al Mar Mini SERE-Really nice knife and my current EDC. I will probably get the big brother at some point.

Bradley Cutlery Alias II- On Order should be here today or tomorrow. If I like it I will probably buy the Bigger version.

Spyderco Native - On order. I bought this to see what all the hype is about. None of my Walmarts carry them so I had to order it. I do not like the way most Spyderco's feel in my hands, but I felt this is an inexpensive one to give them another try.

Buck 110- Because it is a classic and this was my outdoor knife for many years until the Rukus arrived.

Kershaw Blur and Leek- Because I wanted to see what the assisted thing was all about. I will stick with more traditional openers from now on.

Gerber First Run EZE Out - My first pocket clip knife and my first EDC. It still sits in my range bag and gets used for various duties.

Numerous Swiss Army Knives- The Tinker being my favorite and is also my EDC regardless of which clip knife is clipped to my pocket.

P.S. I dislike serrations and would prefer to have only plain edged knives. Unless of course it is a really nice one.

You need some classic slip-joints, maybe a good stockman in jigged bone with carbon steel blades. Also, have you tried any Alox SAKs? They are a whole lot better than the red models.

It looks like you currently have ten versions of the same black plastic knife :D , with a Buck and SAKs thrown in.

How 'bout a swing guard, senator, peanut, stockman, whittler, trapper, and a Barlow? Don't hesitate to mix up the handle materials a bit either - there are dozens of good choices with hundreds of varieties. Wood, bone, abalone, mother of pearl, stone...

If you're looking for something truly unique and interesting, the Kershaw E.T. is unlike anything else on the market.

You have a nice collection.

If you can legally have autos and or balisongs, I think you would find them interesting. Microtech makes very nice autos. Benchmade makes some fine balis.

You could go for a Chris Reeve Sebenza or two. Maybe a Strider folder. Have a look at the TNK website. You will find quite a collection of Chris Reeve and Strider
knives (plus many more).

Maybe get into well made gentleman's folders, like a CR Mnandi.

Lots of interesting knives out there.

Bob W- I agree with the diversifing, but I do take exception to your statemnt about having plastic knives. I have no problem with you disliking my collection but, with the exception of the Griptillians and Gerber, none of my knives have plastic. The other Benchmades are either G10 (which is closer to a fiderglass than plastic) for the 710 and Rukus, or they are Aluminum 720 and 940's. The Al Mar Sere is G-10. The Bradley is Titanuim, and I believe the Kershaws are aluminum as well. I do appreciate the coments of branching out. I agree, that is why I am asking for advise.

To everyone else, Thank you for the suggestions so far. I really would like to find a good knife that is more of a "Gentelmans" knife. I thinks something that is simillar in quality to my exisiting knives with some classier handles would be fantastic.

To those that suggested stockman type knives, I do have a couple already. I have one from Bear mountain and one from Old Timer. I really am not to excited by them, but I will look at all the other stuff everyone is suggesting. I really appreciate the help.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

Juan

P.S. Unfotunetley Auto's are illegal here in California.

Experience Chris Reeve Knives. Give the Mnandi a try. You can always sell it if you don't like it.

Have you looked at Fallkniven folders? I got the TK3 in jigged bone and can't say enough good about it from the "classy gentleman's knife" standpoint. From any other standpoint for that matter.

I see zero spydies. Amongst the spydie classics:

Calypso Jr
Calypso 3 in CF or G10
One of the Millies (CF BG42 being my all time favorite folder)
G10 Endura or G10 Delica
Mini Manix
Manix
Native

Oops, just noticed your gentlemens desire

A few more:

Fallkniven P1
Spydie Kiwi
Spydie Kopa

How about a nice William Henry or a Chris Reeve Mnandi .

I am also a Benchmade fan, so I can tell you- you need a Mnandi, and everyone should have at least a Delica from Spyderco.

I agree... Mnandi from CRK, almost anything from William Henry, or, if you're the kind of "gentleman" that has an eye patch and a couple of scars, maybe a PT or PT-CC from Strider :D.

You'll like the Native, when it arrives.

You might want to look into Microtech knives, while they are still available. It doesn't have to be an automatic. They make some great manuals.

It would be a good idea for you to check out some of the other Kershaw knives, as well. They offer several Gent type knives, with varying materials, and a wide price range.
Start out with a black Junk Yard Dog II, as that would fit along most of your other knives style-wise.
Then look at a Nakamura, with wood and mokume handle.

Maybe look at McCusta for a unique gent's knife.

Fortunately for you, Juan(and me, too) 2" automatic knives are VERY legal in Kommiefornia, Pro-Tech and Microtech both make lovely models that you can legally own AND carry.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

How about a Boker Subcom or Wharcom only because they are nice and small and are a little bit different in form factor.

Open the flood gates and grab yourself a Sebenza. I also carry a little Buck Hartsook. A small little razor of a knife for about $25. You can tuck that away anywhere and have it when it's needed. Nice collection so far.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean, and I would never 'dog' on someone else's collection; I was attempting to be clever by using "plastic" as a synonym for "synthetic." You say G10 isn't plastic; I say it's closer to plastic than to a natural material, and it is a petroleum product. Aluminum and titanium, I suppose you could argue either way - they're naturally-occurring elements, but the finished knife handles have very little resemblance to the natural ores.

I have lots of 'plastic' knives too - kydex, micarta, zytel, delrin, staglon, nylon, etc., etc. There must be a thousand different ways of saying "plastic"....

Try a Case mini trapper or Spyderco Centofante 3.
Be very careful with either they can be addicting.

Probably closer to a 1001 ways;):D I would look at some more Kershaws as they are making a LOT of non assisted knives and are making them in the USA at great prices! Come check out the Kershaw Forum at the Manufactures page.

Everyone needs at least one Blade Tech and one knife from RAT Cutlery. They are good American knife companies other than that your collection looks awesome.
