Ok, I am willing to spend about sixty dollars on my new knife. What do you recommend? Its supposed to replace the infamous EZ out in daily life. It can't look very tactical because it has to comply with New York City law. I don't want it more than three and a half inches. I haven't bought a new one hand opener since 1998 and I want one that won't turn into a flick or gravity knife. I don't take knife selection lightly so I ask your advice. I have created a fund. After working for a few weeks that is my fund for the knife.

Camillus EDC. Can be had under $60 with either a D2, 420, or summat else (some stainless or other, don't recall the name, add a ton and you can get it in talonite too ;) )

Blade just under 3", doesn't look "tactical" at all, and is solid (frame lock, strongest design I've ever used) and dependable. Also there's no way this will turn into a "flick" or "gravity" knife. In fact some people have complained that it's too hard for them to open easily (I don't have a problem with it at all)

EDITED TO ADD: The "other" stainless is 154cm.

Thanks Danny. I have ahd problems with the ability of Camilus knives to hold an edge. Is there any such problem with the EDC?

well, if are are worried about edge-holding ability there is also the spyderco native in CPM440V. I hear this stuff holds an edge like nothing else. I beleive if you shop around you can find this knife for around 60 dollars shipped.

I will also suggest the Spyderco Native, as it's an excellent folder that will give you many years of service.

I will have to also recommend the EDC. As far as problems with edgeholding, the EDC has premium steels such as 154CM, D2, and Talonite. I haven't had any problems with edgeholding on mine. The original EDC's had 420HC, which doesn't have the edgeholding ability of the steels that are now in use on this model.

Just make sure you get one with the upgraded steel and you wont have a problem.

I couldn't find a better picture easily...

Go, don't walk, RUN!!! to Walmart and pay $19.96 for a Kershaw Ken Onion #1640 Vapor. I got mine last night. It is OMG sharp! Frame lock and locks up vault tight. Looks cool!

And you'll have $40 left for the #1600 Chive... a little 1 15/16ths cutey! It is also VERY sharp, has assited opening that is a hoot to play with. I am fast becoming a Kershaw knutt!
