Okapi Inox ?

I got a knife from a coworker & want to know where to get another. Its a folder but doesn't lock back. It has a kind of curved handle like a "toothpick"
It has black handles. Theres a silver bolster at the top near the blade. The blade is marked Okapi in all CAPs. Then it says Inox in all CAPs. The blade is about 3 " long & has a nail nick. Its a clip point. The knife isn't on the okapi web site.

The last I heard, Okapi was only in carbon steel. Inox (stainless) probably marks a clone. Without a picture, we can't really do much more than guess.

I have two like the knives Donna V describes. The scales are white synthetic like simulated bone; bolsters are nickel or stainless steel (not sure); blades are non locking and marked OKAPI INOX in 2 lines. Workmanship around the grip area is a bit rough but the blades are well finished and take a good edge. Good strong spring and quite functional. I acquired them some time back from an Australian ebay dealer.

The original OKAPI's were made in Germany, but the factory moved to South Africa. Here's the link to their site. Maybe you can order straight from the factory, [...] http://www.okapi-knives.com/

No... they're not the usual Okapis listed. Ive never seen a picture of the knife I'm describing. But 2manyknives sounds like he has the same thing as me.

I don't know how common they are but the U.S importer of Okapi folders did import some stainless knives. He showed me a couple at the Blade show a few years ago.

Here are the two knives I referred to in my previous post.

Blade length on the larger one is about 3.25 inches. The smaller one is about 2.75 inches.

They barely look like Okapis. If it weren't for the name stamped there, no one would guess. I still wonder if they really are, or if some rip-off artist "borrowed" the name.

(Thanks for the pictures!)

While notorious for the wood handled old school folders, I've seen several older Okapis that vary from that pattern. Presumably older German production. And according to the current website, they also make several cheesy models that definitely don't appear similar to the wooden models.

Yes 2manyknives the bottom one you posted is the exact thing I have except the handles on mine are black. They're german?

I have a couple of Okapi's that have a tang stamp like that which you described. They are current manufacture, but not listed on the Okapi website. They are made under license for Okapi in Portugal by Ciol. While they aren't expensive, the guy I bought mine from (who gets them directly from Okapi) said that they are sort of rare and hard to find. I got mine from an Australian who has the ok to market them as the only supplier of them in the world. I have the drop point and sheepsfoot models in teal.

Those are nice-looking knives. If they are anything like typical Okapi quality, they won't be dress knives, but could be fine for a non-knife or young person needing them for light work. I especially like the sheepsfoot.

Carbon... Must have Carbon...Have got to have Carbon Steel! Might get one Inox though after a good review..hehhehheh.

They are actually decent quality- better than the traditional African Okapi I have. The backsprings are very positive. They are a fine user knife. The sheepsfoot is nice indeed- It saw some action Christmas morn.
