Ran into some mention about Okapi Ring knives from Africa; did find a listing as working man's knife. They are cheap enough but I know nothing about them. Guess I'm uninformed but what is the function of the ring? Are the knives any good? Any information would be appreciated. Suppose this has been asked and answered before but I have never seen it. Thanks.

The ring allows you to release the locking mechanism.
Okapi knives are made with really decent carbon steel, and they are pure & simply working knives. No frills, no fancy materials, so cheap they're almost disposable. You'll probably need to reprofile the edge when you get it, but it will get & stay very sharp.
Sorta like an African Opinel.

I got one a couple of months ago. I like the design, and the steel, and the price. But it was without a doubt the dullest knife I ever got. I think I may have just got a bad one that they forgot to ever sharpen on one side.

I've used one camping and in the yard. Super light and tougher than they feel. I had to reprofile mine but for the price I can't really complain. Great beater with a unique look.
